Here are a few shots from my trip up the central coast. We visited Hearst Castle, Monterey, Carmel and San Francisco.

First stop: Solvang - I'd always heard good things but I really wasn't impressed. Struck me as an artificial tourist development as opposed to a bonafide quaint settlement.

The next day we hit Hearst Castle. Now *that* was impressive. Unfortunately, no tripods or flash are allowed inside so the lowlight conditions along with my relatively slow lens made for some shots I wasn't too happy with. This outdoor shot had plenty of light.

After Hearst Castle, the next stop was Monterey. This is a famous scene along the 17-Mile Drive:

Beautiful weather and a nice day for kayaking.

Cannery Row:

Onwards to San Francisco...

I liked the pattern these lanterns made hanging from buildings in Chinatown.

Streets of San Francisco: Chinatown.

Kid doing a bungee ride on Pier 39.

Same kid, but I changed the color of his shirt. Someone should tell people to dress more colorfully for the camera!

Right next to the bungee ride was a fruit stand. I'm not happy with the focus of the foreground, but overall I like the shot.

I really like the color of the shelf above the cherries.

You got to try the crab!

A perfect day for sailing on the bay.

A couple icons of the area.

As I was walking along the streets at night I caught this scene. I really liked it and entered it into the LPS for the "Man or Machine" contest. I got one nice PM about it, but overall it seems people didn't really care for it. That's ok, I'm still learning and hope to get better.

    Monterey and Carmel
I loved the treatment you gave the lone cedar from monterey. I was there just a few weeks ago on business. We took the 17 mile drive and then went out to Point Lobos. I am hoping to post mine here this weekend, I've been in database land since my return. :hang it's killing me. Thanks for sharing.

I really enjoyed going along with you on your very colorful trip. I wanted to see the aquarium in Monterey very much but didn't have the time when I was there. Those tanks are HUGE. Additionally somehow I managed to get out of there without seeing Chinatown or eating dungeness crab. Very sad.

I like the way you think! :giggle
