We had an electrical storm on Sunday night, so I decided to give lightning photography a go. I must say, it's a lot of fun. My fun was somewhat tempered however when I learned the newly renovated drugstore in town was struck by lighting and completely destroyed! :huh Story -- Drugstore Destroy by Fire

At any rate, here is a sampling of the shots I got.

Thanks for looking,

Thank, Awais! Timing is simple for lighting. Use bulb exposure, open the shutter and leave it open until after the lighting strikes. It exposes itself. My dad used to do these with film. I wish he was still around to see mine.

eek7.gif Those are some BIG lightning bolts. I would not want to be the airplane flying around the top corner in #3.

I've seen a many beautiful storm shots in Dgrin but I think yours are the most massive ones I've seen. My condolences to the shopowner!

Good eye there, Schmooo! Yeah, I'll bet that sideways lightning bolt got the attention of the occupants of that plane!

    Thanks for the great comments.

    Very cool Joel-

The lightning looks good in those but #3 is the best overall shot.

You have a good backyard to try such things. I go out into the desert and then I realize I am the tallest thing around. I don't stay very long as it gets close! rolleyes1.gif

Amazing! I'd love to try to get some lightning shots, but Seattle gets about 3 strikes every year I think! Maybe over Christmas when I'm in Tampa at the inlaws! Lightning capitol of the world!

Thanks, Aaron. It was sure nice to get these shots from the safety of my covered rear patio. Lightning is nothing to fool around with, as evidence by the fact that two stores were leveled by a lightning strike just over a mile away. :yikes

Thanks, Wendell. Having a ready supply of lighting is everything. Now that I've been bitten by the bug, I'm just waiting for the next big storm. And waiting. And waiting. :cry

The Tampa idea sounds great. Do it!
