Learning the pan

I don't do much in the way of panning and Maczippy's recent MC shots
got me thinking about working on panning. But where?

My choice? Palo Alto Airport.

    Pretty cool shot Ian, the plane looks small, like model small to me for some reason. Real Plane?

    You know how you can place your mouse over a thread title and it pops up a box with the text of the first post? Well I read your post and thought you were talking about Panning for Gold for a second:D

    Compared to a 737, it's small :D I think it's a Cessna Skylane.

    Tim, what would make the shot better?

    I've been there
    Tried to take some plane shots, but I was at the duck pond east of the airport. Since I'm rarely up and out of the house early, of course the light was in the wrong direction!

    This is pretty neat, would have been nicer if the wing tip was in the photo. I like the spinning prop! A longer pan would have been better maybe? But panning actually does take some practice, me thinks! :):

    Canon 1dmkii w/500mm aboard. 1/100 @ f/29 iso: 640.

    I thought this was a cool shot, and still do, but ehughes' comment has me seeing "toy" plane. Maybe it has to do with the comparative scale of the background trees?

    You might be right. Might be the lighting as well. Definetly not a toy though :D
