Just found out about dgrin over in advrider today and thought i would join in.
I just recieved my first digicam a few days ago, Canon A95. Looks a little scary right now, but will sort things out.

Even worse, i'm new to computors. Wil accept any and all advice.:cry
With 30 something years riding bikes and 15 years trying to take a photograph, i have enjoyed the combination.

Would like to learn to post pics here and advrider but am totally lost.:scratch
I have a lot to learn!

No worries, you have a good camera and a friendly crowd here. If you have camera, battery, compact flash card.... and a card reader, you're in business.

The A95 is a highly rated camera with a lot of manual controls, including shutter and aperture priority. It even has an ISO50 setting, which even my dSLR doesn't have. But best of all, it can be fully automatic if you want it to be. The suggestion I give digicam n00bies is to shoot on full auto for awhile, without bothering to monkey with the settings. Get used to how it handles and behaves. Then, you'll find an image or two that just don't come out the way you want them to, so you can tweak a setting or two until you get the results you want. It can be extremely intimidating and frustrating when you start adjusting multiple variables without realizing what each one does. You may even find that it does everything you want it to do on full auto.

So the best thing to do is just whip it out and start shooting.

Rumor has it there are some computer geeks here on dgrin. What computer do you have? What photo-related software do you have?

Hi Snuffy! Welcome aboard!

You guys are counting years with bikes? How about a 1964 Matchless 350 in the year 1982? Does that count for anything? God that thing would work for a week and then rest for two. I always got back home with black hands from fixing something on the way.

Nowadays I don't have the nerve for anything more than a San Yang Duke 125 - something like the Japanese equivalent of the Italian Vespa.

Thanks a lot for the welcome and advice! Have a Dell laptop 5100 with jasc and the software that came with the camera. Will dive in and explore. Yeah, that A95 came with more giblets than i thought, but i like to explore. We are all curious, right? I have a lot of Pentax cameras and enjoy my old reliable K1000.

I hope i'm not off base here if i ask questions about the Speed Graphics. I've had one for years and haven't really learned it's potential.

No, i don't have any photo-sharing services. I did hear of smugmug over in advrider, but have not investigated. Sounds pretty good.

What's the skinny on advrider, dgrin, smugmug? Sounds all related, one family. If so, i think i'm in the right place.

Well, gonna fire up the beemer, ride, and learn how to take a photo today.
Will keep it on auto as recommended, and fire away. This ought to be fun!

Lucky, I think that as a purchaser of an account, you can only use a coupon once. I think. But when you have an account, and your own coupon code, you can get credit by having others use your coupon.

Alternatively, you can include the e-mail address of a current subscriber.

Smugmug is a great place to host images (IMHO) and very reasonably priced
too.

Ok, iv'e been out riding the last few days. What can i say. Took the A95 out for the first time and all went ok. I gotta read the manual,

couldn't figure out the tele-photo. All pics came out considering i was on auto. I've spent some time searching dgrin for leads to questions i have and got my answers. Thanks to all. Will be using a coupon soon for smugmug soon, so thanks for the offers.

I found a thread about pro/con on CF card memory size. Both sound ok, but opted for small. Just ordered 2 from a site that DoctorIt suggested to another.
Thanks Doc.

Gonna have questions about smugmug soon. Got to get some more riding in. Weather is great!
