Why not need a few high end 9 stop ND filters 2x,4x are available easily, but the higher stop ones are rarity and cost around 50-100$ depending upon the make, There could be some market for those.

Filters is a good request-- I like that too.

How about also adding the Lens babies and tilt shift lenses. I am sure we are all a little curious of playing around with those!

Not a lens but other things like Ring Flash, teleconverters, & extension tubes could also be good rentals.

That's an interesting idea - could you post a couple links to which filters you are talking abou?

Aaron, we are strongly considering adding Lens babies and T&S lenses. Would you be interested in renting some if we did wind up adding them?

We do stock teleconverters already and are looking into extension tubes as well. By Ring Flash, do you mean Macro Flashes? If not, please post a link.

What would you use a 10 stop filter for? ne_nau.gif

In addition, the prices here seem VERY reasonable. Less than $100 to rent a 500mm Sigma? Contact info added.

    Review:
I just had one of Max's (BorrowLenses.com) lenses for a week. Nikon 18-200 VR. I wanted to try it prior to buying. BorrowLenses is a very easy company to do business with. Speedy fast shipping to me - CA to my home in PA! Well packed lens. I'll rent again from Max, I'm sure! thumb.gif

And my review of the lens: Nice, sharp enough for most work. I had a little bit of trouble with the AF under low light - a little bit disappointing since the VR sole purpose is to help me out in low light. Maybe on the new Nikon D300 with an even better AF system than my aging D70s?? Will I buy the 18-200? Not sure a this point. It still seems like a great walk-around lens. Might think more about 17-55 2.8 and then do the 70-200 2.8 VR. But that's 3 times the $$.

John, thanks for the warm words and the mini-review! If you are in a major metropolitan area, we notice that it doesn't matter where you are geographically, but the package comes in 2 days (sometimes 3).

    To smooth out flowing water.

A standard daylight exposure is say ISO 100, f/16 1/100s. With a 10 stop ND filter that becomes a 10 second exposure which will give you a fairly soft look in flowing water. Once you add another 2 stops for a polarizer and you can actually open up the aperture a bit to cut down on diffraction effects.

As for filters, I prefer the 4" square ones which I use with a Lee foundation kit because 77mm threaded filters vignette on wide angle lenses. With the setup I have I can stack 4 filters on a 17mm lens and not worry about vignetting.

    More Nikkors?
Especially long ones? I'd love to have a chance to play around with the 200-400VR or the 200/2 or 300/400 2.8's for a week or so.

Max, it looks like you're well on your way. I hope to be a customer pretty soon, myself.

Bill, thanks for the note. Yeah we are working on beefing up our Nikon Inventory. As you probably saw, we got the Canons covered: 300mm, 400mm, 500mm, 600mm all ready to rent out. We are still rounding out the Nikon side - stay tuned, it's only a matter of time for those.

Yes I would- I shoot Olympus so they will need to be 4/3rd mount or have the option to include a 4/3rd adapter to which ever mount you have.

Ring Flash for macro is correct.

    Endorsement
Here's a strong endorsement from a very satisfied customer!! I've rented both Canon 300 2.8 and Sigma 120-300 2.8. The process was easy, the service was great and the lenses were flawless.

I will admit it was very hard to part with the 300 2.8 ....

    Thanks ... Pat

    Pat,

Thanks for the glowing review! I will have to tell you that your order was pretty unique. I don't think anyone ever ordered 2 big Super Telephoto lenses from us at the same time like that :). I am glad we were able to help you make an informed decision for which lens you like better. For the record, which lens did you like better after all?

    On more vote for borrowlensesclap.gif

I recently met Max in the bay area to pick up the canon 10-22 for a three day rental. The transaction went smooth, except Max forgot to meet me for the agreed upon drop off time.:D I called him and five minutes later he was there to pick up the lens and even gave a coupon for a discount next time I use them, which I will definitely do.

Also the lens was spotless and very sharp.

Thanks for such a great service Maxthumb.gif

Well Max, while both lenses were stellar, I think it is going to have to be the 300 2.8. A zoom makes my life so much easier, but I just can't ignore the image quality of the 300.

I recently attended the Virginia Tech - UNC football game. We had great seats - 3rd row in the endzone. My wife pointed to one of the photographers and asked me if I was suffering from lens envy. He was wrestling with a 400 (with monopod), 300, 70-200 and what might have been a 24-70. I was commenting that I'd probably hurt myself as he was trying to handhold the 300, when suddenly the 400 shifted and smacked him right on the forehead. Even though he was kneeling, you could see that the blow staggered him. I know his eyes had to be watering. I couldn't laugh at his misfortune though, because I couldn't help but wonder if he had missed his shot.

Guess I'd better check under the couch again for loose change ... white glass isn't cheap!

HAHAHA...that's awesome. Who says sports photography isn't a dangerous activity? Between the lens smacking you in the head, you also have flying projectiles (footballs, pucks, etc.) and 300 lb burly men trying to plow into you...

    Hey Max,

I give credit when credit is due.

It was my first time at an Air Show and it was fun shooting with the Bigma. I wanted the 300 2.8L but someone else beat to it.

BTW- I really like the addition on the Canon bodies.thumb.gif Great Job!!!
I will be renting the 1D MKII and 16-35mm MKII next month I'm going to Vegas for family vacation.

Btw, were you guys able to look to see if you can get the Tokina 10-17mm Fisheye Zoom as I requested (I think) a while back?

They're not as expensive at around $600 (in comparison to 700-800 for a Canon 10-22), I'd really like to rent one out in the future. thumb.gif

:poke Still looking for the Sigma 100-300 & Tamron 200-500. :hide Those would be my top picks to try out right now.

I see you have the Sekonic 758, I'll have to give it a spin this December & see if upgrading is worth it (only so far I can get with ZS for film using a 358).

No problem, just thought I'd shake things a bit & see what fell. ;) I'd probably only be renting each one once or twice anyway, so I know I don't have a lot of leverage anyway. :)

I finally got my lenses for my Japan trip next week. Needless to say I was pretty interested in trying a company so endorsed by Dgrin and as far as delivery and communication go, I could not ask for more!

It was killing me last night having come home from work and seeing the slip from the postman stuck on my door. I knew that the glass was sitting in a box not two blocks away at the post office and I couldn't get them until the morning. :D

Borrowlenses is my official Tokyo "sponsor." Stay tuned, cuz the Journeys forum will soon be flooded... :giggle
