Fire Damage

My grandfather recently had a major fire in his house. It started in the roof because a wasps nest had been built around a heater. When he turned the heater on the nest caught fire. Luckily he woke up and got out the house just before the roof fell in.

I wanted to document the fire and when I went into the house I spotted all little things that had been there since I was a child but had completely taken for granted. Anyway I thought some of you might be interested.

Thanks for sharing. That looks like a good save by the fire department, it wouldn't have taken much longer to get much farther advanced. I hope your grandpa didn't lose very much.

It's interesting to see the "after" pics, since when I'm on fire scenes, typically things are still burning, or just a soaked unrecognizable pile. I don't get to walk through again later and check things out, I just arrive, put out the fire, and leave, and never see the place again. I really wish I could have a camera with me most of the time. Fire is so INTERESTING, in its destructiveness.

Luckily we had cleared out the loft a couple of weeks before the fire so the vast majority of the valuables were elsewhere, including his darkroom equipment and chemicals!! I dred to think what would have happened if they were still in there. Those chemicals are pretty flamable.

No one was hurt and the insurance is paying out so all things considered he is very lucky. As a result I have backed up my Mac and am now storing a copy off site.
