Hey everyone, I'm rather new to photography, in fact I'm going to be buying my first SLR camera once I get off this deployment. Im going to be getting my friends D80 off of him, and I'm using my extra money from deployment for a Sigma 105mm. Just wondering if that sounds like a reasonable starter rig or is there a better lens choice I should go for. I took these with my little Olympus Stylus Point and Shoot here in Iraq, and think they came out okay for what that camera can offer.

Once I get home, I plan on doing the exercises written by Brian Valentine.

    Welcome to the forum Ahzdeen.
The detail in all three shots is pretty good, especially in Image #2 clap.gif
Pretty darn good for a little point and shoot camera.

The Sigma 105mm is suppose to be a very good lens,
and I'm sure you will be very pleased with it.

Stay Safe, keep posting, and yes do some of Brian's exercises,

The strange thing about most of the exercise, oddly enough, is that they apply to shooting on the range too, its interesting that the fundamentals are about the same. Also today is the marine corps birthday, so I got two beers. Woo! (when you weigh 165, two 14oz guinesses do wonders) :ivar
