My first BIF...

These would be really cool if they were of a more Exotic bird, but instead they are flying rats, or flying Carp....

Anyway, not bad for my first attempt at this, I better not try anymore, I may get hooked, then I would NEED REALLY EXPENSIVE GLASS!!!

Anyway, please tell me what you think:

I like the backlighting in the first shot, it helped separate the seagull from an otherwise busy background.
    Well done for a firstclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

Thanks! I like the first best myself.

I have a question though, I waited for the birds to come lower on the horizon to include trees as a background rather then blue sky. If the trees make the background to busy, what would be a better option? Believe it or not these "Sea"gulls were actually at a lake, and not at a landfill or McDonalds parking lot.... I suppose I could have tried to frame them even lower using the water, but I didn't have a lot of time.

Geesh, I guess this gives me even more reason to add that 1.4 to my bag, and I have been wanting a 300 2.8 for sports work, OH BOY.... I better stop!

I'm sorry if I misled you, I should've been more specific.
I actually meant that in general backlighting helps to separate the subject from the background, whether it's busy or not.
The background in your photograph is not distracting in the least.
BTW, the tools only help in the process of making a great photograph, the rest is up to the photographer.
    Happy shootingthumb.gif

    Ahhhh!!! IC!

Thanks for the clarification. I thought it was pretty OOF, but I am so new to this BIF thing.

I do find the white spots, (more birds) at the bottom of the frame distracting, if I do a print I will either crop or clone them out....

Ya! I am sure if a raptor just let you walk right up on them, and they made multiple passes withing 20 feet, all those REALLY long lenses would be obsolete in a hurry!
