RAW size options and print outcomes

I went to printers to make 12 prints for a porfolio.

1) I didn't like the out come, the finish felt to digitised.

I realised I had worked on a Raw file set at

3456 by 2304 (8. MP) instead of 4096 by 2731 (11.2MP). Could this account for the tackiness? Would re-working these images at the second setting make much difference to the image quality printed at approx A3.

2) he made my print 5cm over a3 (which I asked for) and so is willing to print again at half the price (thanks).

So I'm wondering if the above change would make me a stark difference to the outcome and warrant a reprint to images that have otherwise let me down.

thanks Sam.

    A3 is about 193 sq. inches, right?

    x200dpi = 38600
    x150dpi = 28950

    No, I doubt that the size of image you used is the problem - you've got plenty of pixels even in the smaller version. Are you sure you didn't over-sharpen?

    Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this...

    Sam,

    The original size of this image was 4734 x 3156 pixels and it prints exactly as it looks here at 20x30 inches from EZ prints here on Smugmug.

    No sharpening artifacts and essentially grain free. I can see the individual gains of sand in the light beam in the upper left.

    You should have plenty of pixels for an A3.

    I have printed A3s from 10D files.
