Went along with a friend of mine to shoot the Bodyrock breakboy competition, (in Wellington, New Zealand) in the weekend, I'm not really one for event photography but it was great fun, the opening round was open to anyone and the picked the best 16 to go into the heats.

Take a look in the gallery as there are far to many pics to post in the thread. http://www.ogle.co.nz/gallery/4194747

3, 4, 5, and 7 I love! Back when I used to do that in the 80's we used a cardboard or wood floor though, not brick!

I think you should be in to event photography. These are wonderful! I really enjoyed looking at them. I like how you alternated between blurring the audience and including them, I like when you chose to do so.

Do you find all of them overexposed?

On some I was going for a look with the blacks flashed to expose more for the shadows so you can read the facial expressions (especially #4 and #6), then letting the highlights clip wherever they need to. The background people and the bricks are so busy that I needed some way of separating it from the foreground dancers, so I've pushed some of them right up too.

I'm really interested in your thoughts on that.

I tweaked these on a calibrated monitor but with LCD's it's hard to judge brightness correctly.

    Thanks Andy.

That is BBoy Bounce. He was a guest judge in from Japan (even though he's canadian) he was giving a demo between rounds. The front couple of rows of the crowd are all the contestants giving him heaps of respect.

I don't see them as overexposed. They just need to have the black point set on them. There's a big difference.

The one below might be a little bit hot, but nothing you can't easily fix. You don't really want to see any detail in the white stone behind him anyway.

    I think i get what you're saying.

I made some (actually a lot of) highlight recovery in this one, some black clipping and pushed the brightness just a but higher.
p.s. I'm no pro - just sharing my thoughts (with no lcd calibration etc.)
