Hey all, I just wanted to invite dgrinners about the LAShooters Semi-Formal and Semi-Monthly shoot coming up on Sat 2/2/8

The venue will be the Queen Mary, a wonderful art deco style, last of the steam powered transatlantic ocean liners, moored in the Long Beach Harbor.
Yours truly will lead a semi formal workshop for all the sweet spot and offer some tips for the good shots. Consider getting a wide/ultrawide for opening shots, a polarizer for outside shots, a close focusing lens or a macro for
detail shots, and a flash if you wish to do some shooting inside. If
Tim can make it, he used to do some tours at the QM so he can give us
some more info on the ship. Bring a walkie talkie radio to channel
15, sub-channel 15 if you have them as they are handy for finding lost
souls. For those that want to stay with the workshop, we'll stay as a
loose group. For those that want to wonder off, feel free to do so.

I'd like for us to carpool if possible and meet at 9;30 so we can
shoot an opening shot outside and board her when they open at 10AM and
probably shoot till 6PM.

Tickets are $22.95 but if anyone knows how we can get a discount let
me know as well, Joel, ah hem...

Anyway here is their link.

You can PM me if interested in the details or just show up and look for a lot of folks with way too much gear. ha ha.

If you are inside the ship you can forget about your walkie talkies working. Oh, you can also forget about your cell phones working inside the ship. deal.gif Who know several inches of steel would do such things?

What about windows? Walkie talkie can usually go through that.

Not many windows on the inside of a ship. The ones you need are in cabins and those are locked.

Conflicts with Alexander Restoration Open House
Oh darn. Too bad this is on the 2nd. I've been wanting to go shooting at the Queen Mary, but Feb 2 is the once a year open house of the awesome woodie collection at Alexander Restoration in downtown LA.

Some of my photos from last year are in this thread.

Have fun at the Queen Mary!
