Anyone planning to attend Photoshop World, March 8-10, 2005 in Las Vegas?

I live in Vegas, so I'll seriously consider attending some of the sessions. I won't be able to attend everyday.
I have not been to the EXPO before, here is a list of exhibitors. I don't know how much there will be to learn or see at the EXPO, but at least the price is right. Just wanted to pass it along to those who can make it.
But if I hit a slot for a few Mllion, I'll stay over.

The one cool thing is the book vendors are here so you can see virtually any major and many minor Photoshop books.
They also have a lot of training on DVD, bad for my wallet too. I may go with the Total Trainging PSCS series and a couple other specialized DVDs.
I held a D2x. It feels good, very different (lighter) than the EOS 1D series cameras. Hopefully it will perform well. I did like all the info displayed in the viewfinder and the extreme location of the AF sensors on long axis, nice for vertical protraits.
It was pretty educational, but only a fraction as big as the PMA, but I DID get a hands on look at the Canon Digital Rebel XT. Seems well built, nice and solid. They wouldn't let me put my own CF card in to fire off some shots, tho... so all I could do was see the small version in the LCD (no zooming in because of the lack of a CF card).
The booth for the Canon cameras was pretty small and crowded. It was hard to get in to ask questions and the salesman I got was not terribly helpful..he didn't know the answers to most of my questions about the XT
Nikon was the only other camera company represented. They had a good selection of their cameras, (again, crowded and with only 3 reps there, so I didn't get much of look). The coolest thing I saw there was the new Nikon Coolwaker, a portable storage and viewing device for downloading CF cards. It had a nice sized viewing screen, was pocket sized (well, if you have a fairly roomy pocket) and pretty slick looking. Another on my short list (tho I think the Epson 2000(?) portable might be nicer...the Coolwalker will only recognize and accept NEF RAW, Nikon's own proprietary version). The Epson is probably more versatile, but I didn't see it there (though it could be that I missed it).
Some of the other companies represented there were printers (mainly Epson and HP), Wacom tablets (some pretty cool stuff...they have an LCD monitor with a touch sensitive screen -pretty pricey!), and quite a few software companies (Extensis, Nik, Auto FX, etc.). B&H (and others) had some special deals on certain items at the show. The best part was that there were lots of photoshop related demos going on that were really interesting and informative (I sat through a couple...learned a few new tricks!).
Lots of other smaller companies were there. I got a Hoodman LCD cover/magnifierfor my digicam. A few lighting and luggage companies, and one had a (very overpriced) sensor cleaning kit. I bought some software from Auto FX that I can't wait to try out (the Mystical Tint, Tone and Color filter set). Several booths had drawings for free stuff, but I didn't win any...well, that I know of,
Sorry, but I didn't take my camera into the show...I knew I'd come out with more stuff to carry and I didn't want to lug my camera as well. The booths were mostly pretty basic...not like the PMA where they really go all out. There were some nice deals to be had if you bought the items on the spot. The "bookstore" was also a nice feature...really easy to spend money there as well!
All in all, it was mostly good...a little disappointing, but worth the trip...well sort of. I only wish I could have really tested out the XT and gotten a better feel for it. It did feel pretty good in my hands and it's definitely on my short list for my upcoming dslr cam purchase.

btw...The Excaliber hotel (where I stayed) had really some nice midweek deals...I'd recommend it to anyone travelling to LV (but I wouldn't really recommend their buffet...it wasn't the best).

I stayed next door in the Luxor.
I think WPPI is having their trade show on the 21-23 at Bally's. They will have a lot more vendors, but I don't think anyone brings their booths like they do for PMA, after all a photographer may buy one, two, maybe a few bodies and lenses and accessories, but the store buyers will buy lots of everything so they get the sweet booths.
I wonder why they would not let you shoot with your card in the XT? They let me test the macro with the 20D and my CF card.
I love that 21" wacom cintiq. I am waiting for Andy to buy one and let us know how well it works.

Anyhow, the Canon rep told me I couldn't shoot any pics with the XT because it was a "prototype". You were probably allowed to with the 20D because it's already on the market. Maybe they worry that folks will post their XT pics and because they're not taken by a "pro", they assume they won't be as good and turn folks off who see them. Or...maybe the camera has some issues they don't want made public. I did notice some of the samples on Dpreview were overexposed with blown details and some were really noisy (at 1600 ISO). So maybe they are either working on those issues before releasing the camera, or they don't want any more negative attention.

BYW, what is the WPPI? Don't know if I can manage another trip to Vegas this month...we're going to Cancun at the end of the month (my hubby won the trip at one of his business seminars!). Maybe next time...

It looks like the PS classes were very good. I wish I could have gone, but I've got too many trips planned this year. Hawaii in June will bust the bank.

I went with a friend who picked up the hotel tab. I work with him during the year and it was a bit of a bonus for me. He was originally booked at the Mandalay Bay, until I told him he could walk an extra 5-10 minutes and save $50/night. It was $80/night for our room, rooms which were $350 or more this week. :uhoh I told him the Excalibur was less, but he was ok with Luxor, which was ok with me because I have never slept in a pyramid before.
Maybe a group of dgrinners can get together this fall at Photoshop World East, it will be in Boston.

That is a neat shot. I was surprised at the number of DSLRs taking photos in the casinos, normally they do not like people doing that. They must have been a bit slow to ask them not to.
Hawaii is on my must see list. I am trying to save up both the money and a big enough block of time to see more than one island and do some fun touring while there, biking, kayaking, hiking....
