Making a journey of it - scenery route to work
I could take the bus and be there in 15 minutes. But the sun was out, it was warm and I could just as well take two hours and walk.
So that's what I did, this is my commute to work yesterday
Onward!
After about a kilometer, this is where things start getting interesting. Off the streets and onto the footpaths at the boat dock. All of the boats had their winter coats on, but there was a smell of fresh tar floating around.
And just stone throw futher in the woods...
Must be from Jan 24th. Bit of a storm... the size of that root section is huge!
There are birds singing in all directions now. Most of the voices are great and blue tits that stay over the winter.
Next the path leads to Uranus (not kidding either!). It lives in a nice little gazebo at Villa Elfvik. As a part of a 1:1 billion solar system model.
The sun peeked from behind the clouds here and created some nice contrasty shade patterns.
Can't stay and chat today, so onward...
Anyone up for a swim?
The water level is a tad high. The gate is for cows. I hope to hear them moo at me again this summer. Because I want to moo back at them, and have them look at me like I'm speaking gibberish.
But I digress...
Yay! Spring! :smo:smo:smo:smo:smo:smo
I think these could be old foundations of a shed. Probably belonged to the villa that was in the area before the university. Not much left but a few stones completely covered in moss.
And then, into the reeds.
It's planked paths almost all the way from here.
This stopped me for a little while. A tiny little detail in the frozen pond right next to the duckboarding. Pretty isn't it?
And then another pond just a hop away:
Gotta love reflections of the sky in ponds
And now, the reeds as promised earlier.
This is reed warbler city in the summer, they are absolutely everywhere! I love this part of the path. I used live on the campus, where I'm going now, on the other side of the bay and come here many times. I now live across the Laajalahti bay, so this is still my home roaming grounds. And I wouldn't have it any other way. :lust
Sturdy stuff that. Been here longer than I have by the look of it
We're almost there now:
Birch trees, the quintesentially (southern) Finnish look.
A slight detour to a bird watching tower next,
This is Laajalahti and the reeds I walked through. We're on the other side of the bay now and on the edge of the university campus. If you can see two white specs swimming in the distance, they are the first whooper swan pair to arrive for the season.
Up next: an attempt at an sp ends in calamity!
The picture came out fine and the camera was too. After I dried it. Because it fell from it's perch into a puddle. Bloody Stupid didn't secure the strap to the tree.
It lives! Oh and welcome to the campus of the Helsinki University of Technology. It's just behind the tree line, I promise.
The moral of the story is: don't take the bus every time.

Looks like I'll have to start carrying the camera with my longest lenses as a rule when I go that way now. The birds are starting to arrive! Met more swans and some long-tailed tits last time, never seen those before
