Devbobo Speed Pano (TM)

While visiting some folks in San Francisco this weekend, shizam lent me his 1DmkIII, which was very very cool of him. I was playing with the high speed shutter settings and was amazed at how fast it was. Also, the weather was "so-so" according to the locals :rofl so I went outside to see if I could do a 360º speed pano.
So, using devbobo's technique with Shizam's camera at Aktse's house I was able to do this: click for larger version

    In the amount of time it takes you to spin around in a circle without falling over. I would guestimate that it took about 10-15 seconds? And I'm on the wrong computer right now, I'll look up the xif data when I get a chance.

    So... how long did it take to process?

    And the weather was so-so :-) It rained the day you came in, cloudy and cold the other day, and the sun only came out for your last two days.

    And I can't believe the frame rate of the 1DmkIII -- who needs google street! Just mount the 1DmkIII and you're good to go! mwink.gif

    Okay. I did a search and could not find the Speed Pano (TM) technique. Can someone enlighten me?

    I left a dollar on the fridge and a cold beverage or two in it.thumb.gif

    Ok. A speed pano is just a pano shot quickly. Without benefit of a tripod.
    Just point, shoot, rotate, repeat.

    Thanks Ian, I had my poker game tonight and didn't see this until just now.

    Yes, this pano was taken by putting the camera on High-speed burst, and then holding the shutter down while spinning in a circle. As it was 27 frames shot on a 1DmkIII I'm guestimating that it took me ~2.7 seconds to spin 385ish degrees. I just put it on AV priority and SPUN! thumb.gifthumb.gif It's fun, but takes a LONG time to process on my old G4 PowerBook. Just let it run over night. :D

    So what software are you using to process? I assume it automatically finds the edges and does the stitching for you?

    Man -- last time I did a pano I used the craptastic panoramic software that comes with Canon P&S cameras.

    Here. Try this with the 9-fiddy. Take a two row pano, three or four across
    from the seat of the bike. Import to CS3 and stitch away. You won't be
    disappointed.
