Postholing Deep Snow

Anybody got any good tips on snow pictures? We went out to climb yesterday and wound up postholing a few hundred feet through immeasurable depths of snow (read: couldn't reach the ground in most spots). Had a blast both doing that and drying off on the warm rock in the sun, but I didn't come home with very many good pictures. Not really much of anything actually.

Also this one. He was using too much good technique, I couldn't ever catch him looking upwards.

There's no reason to post-hole if you don't have to

Snowshoes would only have made it MORE impossible, since you'd sink to your hips and then wouldn't be able to pull them out.

The snow was QUITE soft... lol. It was awesome fun, even if a little wet.

nice pictures, I can't imagine climbing when it gets that cold. Over here in West OZ we don't go out if there is a light frost on the ground!

huh? snowshoes spread the load over a larger surface area. meaning that
instead of spreading 160lbs over say 1^2', it's spread over 5^2 feet.

in the long run, this means you sink less, not more.

regardless, it's still hella fun!

Well it WOULD mean that if it wasn't 60 degrees and the snow had any support to it at all, but in this case the snow was so soft it would have taken a sheet of plywood on each foot. Even skis or a snowboard wouldn't have stayed on top here. And YES it was more fun than I've had most of the winter!

60? Time to summer'ize the snow machines
