Canon 30D Question...

This is a 2 part question. I have read through the 30D manual and it's suggestion does not work.

I shoot sports and a lot of photoJ things where the lights are constantly changing. For that reason i shoot Av and M. I recently purchased a 30D and for some reason the EC is stuck at -1/3 step. Its driving me insane! It is underexposing all of my photos by a third of a step.

All of my buttons and such things work just fine but for some reason EC cannot be changed in M AV or A-DEP modes. (i don't use any other modes)

Thanks for any advice.

My other question is in M mode is the EC just a light meter?

thanks

Referring to the instructions in the Instruction Manual here:

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=12929#DownloadDetailAct

Make sure the power switch is in the second position.

Locate the large dial on the back of the camera (Quick Control Dial).

    Page 93

Hold the shutter button halfway down, and twirl the large dial on the back of the camera (Quick Control Dial). You should be able to neutralize the setting this way.

In addition to ziggy's comment, metering needs to be awake while adjusting compensation, and focus points, tapping the shutter release half-way is enough to turn metering on for a few seconds. Note: on a 20D anyway, I'd actually like to know if the 30D has this quirk too :D

Yes, not much else for it to do in manual :D
    Creativity's hard.

Are you sure it's EVC and not Flash Exposure Compensation?
You can't have EVC in M mode.

If none of those suggestions work, you can reset your camera to factory settings (it's in the Tools menu (yellow), something like "clear settings")

Also, I'm not familiar with the 30D (I shoot a 5D), but you might want to see if your firmware is up to date. It may have been some glitch on some cameras that Canon might have taken care of.
