Vienna, Austria

In February, I was working on getting photos that I took on an old trip to Vienna and Paris on my computer. The trip was only about a year ago, but at the time I only had one digital camera, which my wife used for most of the trip while I used film cameras. I only got around to scanning the negatives and processing the photos digitally this year. I'm not looking forward to scanning negatives from earlier trips, but will gradually get it done.

We left Philadelphia and flew to Paris, where we spend a long weekend. I haven't finished the photos from that part of the trip, I will add some later (I have other Paris trips, I want to collect the best from various trips together). The trip didn't start out well (destroyed windshield on my month old car from ice flying off a truck on the way to the airport) but was great once we got there.

From Paris, we flew to Vienna. It was a bit of an adventure getting from the airport to our hotel. I wasn't really prepared for the Vienna S-bahn and U-bahn, it took far longer than it should have to find out which train we wanted, and then to find the transfer from the S-bahn to the U-bahn. But we made it.

I'm not going to present the photos in the order they were taken, I don't have then sorted that way. They will be somewhat random, but I'll talk about the places a bit as I go.

While we were in Vienna, they were having Viener Eistraum (Vinnese Ice Dream) in the Rathaus (city hall) park. It looked really neat at night. They had a couple skating rinks and food booths, as well as lots of lighting setup.









We spend a good bit of time in the Inner Stadt (inner city, the oldest section of the city). That's where Stephansdom (St. Stephan's Cathedral) is located:





right across the square from the cathedral is a very modern building:

On the edge of the inner stadt is the city park, which is famous for the statues of composeds located there:






No visit to Vienna could be complete without a visit to Schonnbrunn Palace:

We took a streetcar ride to the Belvediere

After Vienna, it was back to Philly and then on home. And my in-laws had my car fixed!
