Doug, I think folks reactions is more to the fact that when we see "engagement photos" we don't think about elongated tongues which.... are both rather long. I'm sure it's going to be a great marriage. Perhaps you could post some of your other shots from this set? Give us a better idea of how the couple interacts with each other?

Perhaps not the beach but the grubby folks in the background.
#2 is awesome IMHO. could have been shot with more background blue for kicks but I see where you were going there.
#1 could use some fill light, which you can do in photoshop if you open your raw up and reprocess or even take your jpg and open it up in ACR and just add some fill light. Their faces are a touch underexposed. You might even do the opposite for #3, turn up the blacks and contrast so that you only see their silhouettes. Just some ideas, minor nit picks really, all in all a good set.

could be. I thought it made the photo more real. I let the natural lighting of the moment hit their faces w/o shading or such, so I didn't think I had to do the beachcombers. But after I get to work tomorrow and I'm on my more powerful box....bet I do just that.
They weren't going to get these shots taken at all and it was a last minute decision to rope me into it. These shots were just initial proofs to show the couple some results. I'll work on the exposures, smooth their complexions and eliminate distractions when I get some butt time in tomorrow at work.
Thanks for any input....I was nervous about these shots. My style is more paparazzi-like.
I agree, #2 (with the bridge) is beautiful . #1 (of the 2nd series) is cute too, but a bit underexposed .... try maybe fixing it in photoshop, and I am sure you could get a great photo out of it!!
I love the updated version of the bridge shot! How about maybe getting rid of the fence on the beach, it catches my eye too much?...theres another fence spot close to his right knee as well. I really, really, like this shot!

thanks ya'll. The bride/groom settled on the same shot that everyone here favored. Turned out to be a paying gig and I pocketed $800. Gave up the RAW and rights to them for that. Mistake?

If that means you can't use it in your portfolio, it might be... I would ask if they would mind if you used it and get a model release b/c I think that definately should be a shot you should show off
The bridge in background pic it wonderful . great job cleaning up the beach. Not supprised at all they picked that one.
I would think selling the rights would only be a mistake if there was significant residual income from the shot or they were going to use it for an advertisement or cash paying contest entry. I do agree with frog lady about getting a model release and permission to use it in your portfolio

Well, it may be my monitor, but #2 is the only one that is not "way underexposed".
