Looking for EXIF-IPTC-XMP editor

I'm looking for a good editor to read and write EXIF-IPTC-XMP data to image files, especially Keywords & Descriptions. I want an editor that works with Photoshop files (PSD), and Canon Raw (CRW) in addition to jpg and tif. I think that eliminates Opanda.

I'm currently using a trial version of Breeze Browser Pro, which works pretty well, but my web host (SmugMug) isn't picking up the data on most files - they have a feature to automatically display keywords & caption, but apparently it's looking at different data fields than those that BBP used.

I'd prefer something that will handle batch editing, for less than $50, but would also consider upgrading from Photoshop CS to CS3 when it's available (if it handles these functions well).

If you are testing a beta version of CS3, I'd appreciate hearing of your experience with this editing function, and the software in general.

    I just downloaded the Windows stand-alone version yesterday, and found it good for reading.

    Can it also write? And do batch? Or would I have to install it as a command line program for those functions?

    The command line thing bothers me - another learning curve I don't feel I need right now, but maybe it's not a big deal.

    Any comments?

    EDIT:
    Just went to the site and saw some info on writing exif, which doesn't exactly look user friendly (to my eyes at least).
    The guide info apprears to be written for those with lots of DOS experience. I'm just using it as drag 'n drop at present.

    I just found this tool, too... and haven't had time to use it. It's definitely powerful on the command line. Free stuff generally comes with caveats, like ease of use!

    Take a look at this German built Meta Editor at PhotoME It comes in English (as well as description) it's free! So, well under $50. Also take a peek at this little free program IrfanView

    One other thought, Dr. Dane. If you can edit the copyright notice in to a picture in the data, even in batch, what is to stop someone from simply editing that line out or change it to their name? If it can be added, it can be taken away.

    I'll add one other. RAW PhotoDesk As I took a look at some of the copyright pics and noticed that I had done this in RAW Photodesk. As an additional bonus, it can process RAW photos files, which is why I got it in the first place.

    This was an old thread, and I've since settled on Adobe Bridge & PS CS3, which does pretty well for metadata. I'll keep PhotoME and Raw PhotoDesk in mind as other possibilities.

    Regarding the copyright thing, yes, it seems these editors were made with honest people in mind - maybe they sould be banned for politicians! rolleyes1.gif Is nothing sacred anymore?
