CC Wanted for outdoor Shots

I was at a local skatepark and had one of my friends do what he does best. I do not really like the turn out of the pictures they don't seem colorful. Im shooting a d300, I did not use my flash, for it was pretty friggin bright outside. The cement around the park also makes things very very light. Anyone have any tips? I was on M mode. Maybe I should just try A priority?

Flash is your friend
If it were mee shooting here I would shoot tight....really tight. Get in differnt angles - in this image

I would be shooting from the corner of the ramp (left) in the dirt and shooting up at the rider.

Use flash (it is your friend) and under expose the ambient light by a stop and see how tyou like the reslts - tweak from there. On camera flash would be ok, but your lighting will look very flat - try using off camera flash.

So, try positioning the flash somewhere else? Or are you meaning using my sb 600?

Your perspectives in 63, 82, and 115 are better. Every image has the subject dead center though. Due to the time of day, your subject is always in shadow. You could correct that with flash, but you're likley to loose your burst mode with the SB-600. Off camera with Nikons CLS is an option, but you'll get one shot when you press the shutter. Check out commender modefor the flash in your manual.

Personally, I'd wait until 1hour before sunset to go out and shoot, or if your friend hasn't been out too late the night before, get him up at sunrise. Both times will give you the opportunity for some silhouet shots against a dramatic sky or some sidelight on your subject.

I went out a little later with my friend/partner. It was kinda a crappy night with clouds. But I think they turned out a little better. Still trying to get use to iso and Aperature time. Just gotta find that sweet spot.

A few pics DO NOT have the flash. And I know they are a bit cluttered. Just practice right now..

I'm the guy that went out with Chris. This was my first time ever shooting anything in a skate park, so I wasn't really sure where to position myself for the best shots.

I feel the lack of sky (was about to rain), and the bike being washed out sort of ruined this one. Here it is anyway.

The sky was also washed out in this one so I just converted it into b/w.
