Welcome to Mini-Challenge #4: "All that remains"

I am picturing some highly emotive images, dealing with loss, the passage of time, grief, and the like; feel free, however, to interpret this in any way that you wish.

The contest will run from Today, June 7th, Through Monday, June 16th at midnight. That means entries close at 12:01 on the 17th.

The photographs do not have to be fresh. Trot out some old stuff if you like. Photoshopping is allowed. I believe my prejudices as a critique are well known, but I will recapitulate them from a post made long, long ago:

Quote:
<table border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr> <td class="alt2" style="border: 1px inset ;"> #1- I hate shots of dogs, kids, and selectively colored objects, so if you are going to do it, it had better be extra good.

#2 Dynamic is better than static.

#3 information rich images are better than images that are information poor.

#4- I do not follow or stick to my own rules very tightly, except for the one about selective coloring. I can also be bought very cheaply. </td> </tr> </tbody></table>
Sorry for the strange ending times, but I am moving to Germany on the 14th, so I don't want to end it reight before or after that day.

Good luck!

P.S: I am serious about the selective coloring. Seriously.

    Wow!
    Great shot.

This is just an observation, because Swartzy had about the same thing in the last mini challenge.

The watermark is fairly large on your shot, and where it's placed on this pic, it would take
about 5 seconds to clone over the top of it. (if I was looking to steal your shot)
Does it really make sense to watermark in this manner?

Just asking. I know it's off topic, but I had to ask.

Hadn't really thought about it. I just have this watermark set up as a default when I load the pictures to the galleries. I do not watermark each shot individually - the galleries are also rt click protected to help deter a little more. If someone really wants to get it though- I guess they could.

There is no absolute protection anyways is there? People can clone- crop- and all kinds of other things if they really want it.

No of course I will end up going in and making several other watermarks deal.gif:D

Awww....thanks. Those cats are actually sculptures scattered throughout the prison, which is called Eastern State Penitentiary. When the prison officially closed in 1971 a colony of cats lived there. When restoration efforts began, they were captured and neutered and eventually died off. The sculptures represent those cats. :D

    Youngstown Sinter
Youngstown Ohio at one time was a thriving steel community. The area's first blast furnace was built in 1803. By the 1970's most of the mills were gone devastating the local economy and earning the area the nickname 'the rust belt.'

These pictures are of Youngstown Sinter which closed in 2001. They were taken in the fall/winter of 2007. The site is completely demolished now, all that remains is a large hole/scar in the ground. More images in this gallery. If you click the 'Map This' button in the gallery you can see an arial shot taken just before the demolition.
