Stop Overprocessing Eyes!!!!

I'm going to get on my soapbox....

I am seeing WWWAAAYYY to many photog's nowadays completely overprocessing the eyes of subjects. Whether it is via enlarging the pupils or altering luminosity and color dodging, some photogs need to tone this down.

There are some terrific tutorials out there and some are better than others. However, when a subject's eyes are deep blue... please don't make them cyan with streaks of white (waayyy tooo much luminosity).

Also, I hate to say this because I know how hard they work, but wedding photogs tend to be the most guilty of this. I bring this up because I see terrific photos often marred by completely unrealistic eyes. :scratch

O.K....I'm done now. Back to normal... Excuse me while I go back to photoshop and give my daughter green hair...

To a point. I can appreciate a really unrealistic eyeball if it's done well. You see it in magazines all the time. Colours that can't possible exist or the eye looks like a masterwork of painting technology all in a centimeter of print.

Seriously though,

We can all appreciate the beauty on the cover of Elle and Glamor, but lets be realistic... Changing the eye color of a subject should be a complete NO NO unless they specifically ask for it.

Are you talking about purple or pink eyes? Yyyeah. I'm a light supporter of PSing a photo. Whenever I get advanced post processing I'll use to dodge out flyaway hair or wrinkles. Maybe this makes me lazy but I want to try to get it right in the camera as much as possible so I don't have to do much after the fact.

I admit to like Photoshop, especially with landscapes and emulating old fuji velvia film. I also use photoshop to clear up blemishes on peple and slightly soften skin features, and yes... to bring that sparkle out in their eyes!

Sometimes the force of the darkside is strong... it can tempt you to distort reality....

The really funny thing, is that once you get looking for necks that are impossible in humans, legs and arms that are vastly longer than normal, etc you find them in a great many publications.

I love rummaging through that site - you wonder what the art editors who signed off on those images were thinking.

Maybe they weren't thinking so much as having a very important pedicure and signing every bit of paperwork that comes there way.
I imagine people who make those important decisions don't take their work very serious. I like it when the caption says something like "The digital artist woke up in the middle of the night shreiking 'I forgot to put her finger back on!'"
