Today's Captures (7/26/08)

Went to the local preserve with the intent of shooting butterflies. But following the torrential rains we've been having, I was unable to get out in the head-high grass without drowning. This was the only butterfly I was able to get near. All shots from today are existing light, ISO 800, 70-200 f2.8 with 1.4X TC and 36mm tube.

But I did end up finding quite a few dragonflies along the edge of the fields. Amazing how some you can't get within 10 feet of, and some you can walk right up to. I added a little blur to the BG on a few of these to try and highlight the subject better and get rid of the highlights from the sun hitting the raindrops. Can't really tell if it helps or hurts the pictures. Can you tell which ones they are?

good shots Gary, good compositions

a few look a bit bright, mainly the pale grass seedheads.
great eyes on couple of them.

You did a great job with the composition of these shots.
Those dragons all look quite large are they?

Your butterfly has beautiful bands across it's eyes,
I'm a sucker for bands, every time I see anyone on this forum post a shot with a bug and bands across it's eye's, I say to myself, geezz I'd love to find something like this to photograph.

Gary your getting excellent results from your set up of the 70-200mm with the added extention tubes, do you put the image stabilizer on when you shooting with this setup?
