>Mini Challenge #9 - Abstract and/or Minimalist

Sometimes the elements in a photo can be beautifully abundant and complex…as in a lush landscape. Other times a photo can consist of just a couple of elements…as in a lone tree on the horizon.

A definition of Abstraction that I like is: Abstraction is the process of taking away or removing characteristics from something in order to reduce it to a set of essential characteristics. (Link)

Have fun with this…Follow the rules of composition…Break the rules of composition…do whatever makes for a pleasing image just so long as it’s abstract and/or minimalist.

Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves what abstract and/or minimalist means as I am certainly no expert.

Also, it might be kind of fun to have a “guess what this is” with a few of the photos – so just say “guess what this is” under your photo if you want to have folks take a guess.

This challenge will run from Sunday, August 10th thru Saturday, August 23rd (Midnight) Eastern Standard Time and the winners will be announced Sunday, August 24th.

I'll post the winner in a new thread titled: <<< MINI CHALLENGE #9 Winner >>>

~~~~~
*GENERAL RULES*
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
Guidelines:
1. When posting your picture in this thread, change the Subject of your post to display your picture title. (not really needed)
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
* The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
* Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
* Please remove any photos from previous posts.
    I went minimalist just yesterday morning, so I'll post 3 images from that shoot (but I have many, so I might change them up during the challenge):
    Close! It's definitely the light beam from the top of the Luxor -- but it's actually swarms of moths drawn to the light! We were divebombed by the moths trying to get to it the whole length of the sidewalk walking back to the Luxor that night!
    are these abstract? or am i misunderstanding....?ne_nau.gif it new territory for me...
    In my opinion/interpretation, the paterns in the sand counts more as an abstract than the flowering cactus. The cactus shot, while nice, would need to be much closer and only have, oh say 2 or 3 petals from the flower to be an abstract in my mind.
