My First Wedding- Christina's and An's wedding!

My parents' friends let me shoot their photos at their reception. So this is my first of many wedding photographs! They told the official photographers that I would be shooting as well and they were ok with it. :clap

learning from my very first portrait session I tried my best to:
  • not cut off hands or feet!
  • use an aperture of f/2.8 to f/4. They were probably 2.8 or 3.
  • Flash bounce or diffuser. I think my shovel will need to be replaced by a Gary fong soon..
  • I sorta copied Urbanaries watermark design.... thanks, Urbanaries!
  • to RELAX!
So let's see how I did! I do appreciate C&Cs!

First the appetizer area:
363753541_4qb6H-L.jpg

We were at Leonard's in New York City, or the outskirts. The place was huuuge! They had like 5 wedding receptions going on at the same time!

363754054_psbXX-L.jpg

I was invited guest as well, so I had to dig into the food. The appetizers were better than the main course.

363754583_BWdcS-L.jpg

Another invited guest photographer. too bad he snagged my batteries... I am gonna have to ask him to buy me another pack of AAs!

363754833_CXaff-L.jpg

This place, I am telling you, is so fancy! It was like a mini Borgata!

363754901_uGYsx-L.jpg

They didn't get a vegan wedding cake, the icing had eggs in it I heard. Which was sad cause most of the guests there were vegans.

363755063_86bW8-L.jpg

363755418_R36Bi-L.jpg

I remember Nikolai wondering where he could get Rose petal leaves... so I found some for him! I took a bunch of them off the tables when it was all said and done! But I don't think that by the time it arrives to him, they will be still fresh.

The bride and groom is about to enter at this point. This wedding is a hybrid between a Traditional Vietnamese Wedding and Western style weddings. So the bride had Ao Dai's and the White wedding dress.

363755721_gojAH-L.jpg

363755815_EcMYJ-L.jpg

The parents of the bride. They always poke fun at me on the weekends. Mainly because I cannot speak Vietnamese.

363755909_aHTr5-L.jpg

This couple acted as the Groom's parents. The groom's parents could not make it to the wedding because they are still in Vietnam.

363756103_vWmkT-L.jpg

363756219_UaDsJ-L.jpg

I had to crop out a little to our right, there were some distracting elements in this one.

363756301_CeHNj-L.jpg

The bride and groom!

363756394_gGzk7-L.jpg

I liked the color on the bride's face on this one!

363756532_Y2eRB-L.jpg

He had this huuge blood spot on his left eye, I healed spotted most of it out. Guess he was really stressed out before hand! :dunno

363756646_LvaGW-L.jpg

363757069_QU6Mf-L.jpg

You can still see a smidge of the blood on the top of the eye.. it is so hard to get out!

363757311_m8Z9r-L.jpg

363757480_TXJP8-L.jpg

363757626_K22Gd-L.jpg

I really like this photo.. even though it is very centered.

363758290_zdxpX-L.jpg

Don't they know that I don't understand Vietnamese? :roflJust kidding, I know a good amount. I just can't speak it back.

363758770_Xz9ZA-L.jpg

363759044_fRosQ-L.jpg

363759301_6sTHD-L.jpg

I think I blown out the cake, but at least the couple were spared from being blown out.

363759534_UCzFs-L.jpg

I enjoy taking the photos of them kissing!

363759621_qaGAj-L.jpg

My nephew made a mouse radish and put it inside the flower set

363759703_DHhKP-L.jpg

363759790_9XU4G-L.jpg

the shadows ... :soapbox

363759840_q27y2-L.jpg

We had bubbles too!

363759949_SG7ut-L.jpg

363760606_nkZdn-L.jpg

When the bride came out with her Ao Dai's, the wedding/reception became even more enjoyable! Too bad I cut out the groom.. :cry

Canon Versus Nikon at the wedding!!

363761153_wjc4b-L.jpg

Our MC.

363761231_HVvGo-L.jpg

take that, NIKON!! Get your head chopped off in my photo! :rofl I kid, I kid!! I actually think this is one of my favorite shots!

363761329_Q4f5G-L.jpg

Going through that tunnel was pretty hard. They all were made their bridge arches small for me. I am a pretty muscular figure, so it was prettty tight!

363762987_NduoD-L.jpg

363764032_cqFtt-L.jpg

We had glow sticks too, so we had mini light shows going on as well!

363764169_W9qNM-L.jpg
The main course... it was ... ummmmm...

363764246_GkMwV-L.jpg

363764317_Ddxhv-L.jpg

363764488_rLrhW-L.jpg

ugh.. I backfocused on this one... but I still like it!

363764799_DAdFY-L.jpg

363766188_2TdkY-L.jpg

the bride's third dress! Whoa... brides wear many dressed during weddings? I seriously didn't know that!

363768514_BLAk6-L.jpg

363768866_iFgHM-L.jpg

363768927_fdfr4-L.jpg

See that carnal moment!

363769710_q5jJ4-L.jpg

Q and A session!

363770531_caf3j-L.jpg

Some formal shots!

363770996_ndiui-L.jpg

363775226_N5zvX-L.jpg

363775928_gc64n-L.jpg
A not so formal shot..

363781149_g3kGF-L.jpg

Something about this photo makes me really smile, like i did something right! I think it is the overall tone of the photo, the green.

And end this wonderful wedding night with..

I'm not going to comment on each individual photo, primarily because you posted so many and you didn't number them. So, as I see one's that strike me, I'll include a smaller version and make my comments...

Generally, and for FWIW, I like what I see:
    • There are some issues with keeping verticals vertical and
    • You have some WB issues here and there,
    • You spent all your time on your feet. Try different perspectives - this is a problem I constantly battle so I feel your pain on this one...
    • On the two formal shots - you had problems with the lighting. You got the floor just fine, and their feet. But, by the time the light got to their faces it had disappeared:cry
    • When you are taking photos of the little ones, they are usually much better if you get the camera down to their level rather than looking down on them.

But you did a wonderful job of getting the story.

I really like this one - too bad they weren't looking at you though.
    363757069_QU6Mf-S.jpg

Too bad you couldn't get the B&G in this hallway - you could have worked some real magic!
    363759703_DHhKP-S.jpg

I love the colors in her gown/dress - too bad you cut him out of the picture

Impressive work!! - Especially considering that you had mirrors all over the place & the ceiling looked quite high (at least in some places of the room). Very well done, you got some different looking shots, I'm sure the couple will be VERY happy with them!! clap.gif

Wow..that was one HUGE post. As I've been told before, numbering them would be very helpful. Pretty good first time out. Colors are kinda all over the map and some could be "only for their gallery" kind of thing. The cake cutting shots have possiblity. Getting in tighter, making them the focal point would have done the trick. Keep goin! thumb.gif

Nope - representative photos are a goodness. All the photos (OK, so I exaggerate a bit, but not much - 61 photos in that post!:D) is not so much a goodness.

Not intending offense or even ridicule, just a question of curiosity - I wonder if that is some sort of record, "Most linked photos in a single post".

Does that mean I am the record holder??

I could have posted all 181 or so photos... I guess I should have. So no one could top that! rolleyes1.gif

But honestly, I am too used to posting in the journey forums than anywhere else, I'll keep it in mind for the next time for short but super sweet.

Yup - that's what I said, but I think I counted wrong. :cry

The result of the recount is

    62

But, of course, I could be wrong yet again. It's been such a long time since I was in 1st grade.

    This is so much fun!!

Great job on your first one, I love the feeling you captured. Was this what you rented the 70-200 f2.8 for?

Not really.. I rented it for my portrait session that was on Wednesday. I am finishing those up right now. I did use the 70-200 for the wedding, I had it for a week so I figured why not. The place didn't have the need for a far away shots. It was all really close together. And since I was up and about all the time, the 24-70 saw more action.

thanks, again, for the comments, everyone! Don't worry, Scott, the next one will have 63! :Drolleyes1.gif
