Mini Challenge #14 Portraits with Soul…

Not just any portrait, I want to see and feel the emotion being expressed in the person’s expression, I want to be able to see their soul, I want to look at the portrait and have it grab me and hold my attention…

The portrait can be a street shot, candid, posed or studio whatever you like…Comments are Welcomed... If you see a shot that says something to you, please tell that person about it. Ask about the processing, whatever you like. Lets get some conversation going. Lets have some fun.
This challenge will run from Wednesday, October 29 (today), through Wednesday, November 12 at 1900 CST.

GENERAL RULES

1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some critique or criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
5. * The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.

Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. Don't be hesitant, share'em and enter!

Can it be a portrait when you can't see their faces?
We'll know at the end of the challenge.

I've shot (with a camera) some pretty soulful animals...

    135809531_v2bqM-L.jpg

just thought I would leave animal portraits for another challenge... :D

nice shots so far... looks like Linda went back in time... headscratch.gif

Faces are good but not necessarily required for the image to be considered a portrait... Dave's shot of the wall is a great example...

    Fun topic!

First I thought it would be hard to find much to show, but then I remembered this little girl I met on the bus, her name is Sanna and she was heading to the swimming hall with her mom and sister.

Which sort of reminded me of my favourite street shot. It's from a vacation to Prague, shot on the tram number 17 while riding back to town. We'd got on it simply because the line went off our map - just to see what's out there you know.

Three shots with soul. I hope you agree. Comments and Criticism always welcome.

    1. Nan Lucy. (Opinion and Passion)

Lucy has eighty-seven years of life experience and is always happy to share it with anyone.

    405831790_QppeX-L.jpg

    2. Namibian Boys. (Cheeky, Defiant, Preoccupied)

Three brothers in rural Northern Namibia. For me, the shot captures an essence of boyhood at each of these three ages.

    3. No Lower Gears Left. - (Pain and Determination)

Two cyclists approach the summit of Chapman's Peak Drive, Cape Town.

    Some amazing shots on here....
Hey guys/girls, I am sorry...I really don't get out much. Most of my shots (pretty much all) are around the firehouse...I hope you don't mind.

This guy is really quiet. Great guy and works really hard as you can see. I did a little HDR type thing with this shot.

    hdr1.jpg

This guy asked for a portrait, so this is what we came up with. Lighting was a nightmare.

    Brian1mailable.jpg

This guy is really sweet, always making people laugh.

    Good luck everyone!

    What a range of images...

Personally I find the most powerful to be "Michael" by Kiki, and The Coffee Worker, photographed by David Librach.

    Inspiring stuff...

I find the "Young Musician" posted by Gage a great, cute shot... fantastic! :)

It is probably older that few days so unfortunately it couldn't go to the "Loud & Silence" contest ...
too bad - it could be a winner!

    Love it iloveyou.gif
