Just a quick question.

We're looking at the Siggy 70-200mm f/2.8 for the canon. Anyone know what the difference between the I and II models are?

Thanks,
D8

Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

Why do people post their equipment in their sig. Isn't it kind of like bragging? That having been said...

IIRC the mark II has some improvements made to close focus, but 99% of the design seems to have stayed the same, this is only what sigma marketing had to say, still, if it wasn't an upgrade one wonders why they did it.

It's a bit confusing b/c Sigma made 4 70-200mm lenses. The older versions are the "non Macro" lenses and the last one came with "DG" coating.

The current one is the 70-200mm f2.8 Macro II. The "Macro" version was a new design with closer min. focusing distance and magnification. The version I per PopPhoto had worse image quality at 200mm end and focusing issues as well IIRC hearing from POTN forums. So Sigma soon introduced the version II of the macro lens with better IQ and focusing.

Here is dpreview's test of it.

IIRC, it still isn't as good at the long end.

You may also want to consider the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 which has better optics but worse AF motor or the non IS version of the Canon lens as well.
