Cameta?

Did a search, but the hits were mostly quoting prices from them rather than commenting on their worthiness or not (if I missed threads/posts, apologies - I struggle with the dgrin search engine for whatever reason - it never seems to pull up what I'm looking for even when go "advanced" with it :scratch).

Saw a few responses and a fair bit of positive comment about them on another forum, but would love to hear from folks here at dgrin. They've got some good prices on accessories via their amazon store, but just wanted to check and make sure they're one of the good guys before plonking down my Christmas-gift money!

Thanks in advance.

I've purchased a couple of little things from Cameta, but I would not recommend them for major purchases. They have a fairly good rating history:

Just accessories - not big ticket items. Thanks for replying so fast! :)

Cameta is about 5 miles from my house. I've bought a bunch of stuff from them.... never via web or phone, always from the actual store..

    Very helpful and knowledgable

I bought a Sigma 24-60mm f2.8 from them without any problems.
Buddy bought a Canon 40D from them via ebay without any problems as well.

Their shipping times and rates are a touch higher than others but they are often cheaper.

I've a buddy that has bought two Sigma 17-35mm's from them as well, including a return on one (bought in the wrong mount) without any problems.

I'd buy from them without any hesitations.

I have purchased several cameras and lenses from Cameta thru their ebay store....but I have also purchased from Cameta back in the film days by way of phone......they used to be one of the better advertisers in the various mags.....

Yeah I still go to them and I will also ask if they will meet a price of someone else if reseller ratings gives a good report on the lower priced store...if it is a retailer with more bad than good then I wouldn't dare ask for a price matching............

Of course I was drawn to them because of them being in AMITYVILLE , NY.....anyone know just how far from THE House it is ????:D

I'm about 20 minutes away from their store, and have made several purchases in person from the store. Never had any bad experiences. A friend purchased a 40D from them a couple of months ago, they honored their internet price in-store (not everyone does that). I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

    Wow - thanks guys!

Hopefully this thread will come up if somebody else searches in the future. Glad to know that these are some of the good guys, because their prices seem pretty good. STill haven't decided if I'll be ordering a grip through them (I keep hoping I'll find one 2ndhand a little cheaper), but now I know I can use them without any concern.

    Thanks again! thumb.gif
