I have all the listed items, and personally inspected them all. I've not done much dealing here, so let's get… -
Re: what can I change?
hmmm... do you mean a flash unit or a *strobe*? They are two different things. By *strobe* I believe Steve was talking about a strobe setup for the gym you will be shooting in. A setup like that even if done 'cheaply' will run you quite a few bucks (at LEAST $500 used-and even that is optimistic-lol). And, honestly, if I… -
Re: A stupid question about CDs
Sorry to get slightly off topic, but isn't it meaningless to specify dpi for a digital file without reference to print size? That is, say a file is 800x1000 pixels. If you print it as an 8x10, the print will have 800 pixels spread out over 8 inches and 1000 pixels spread out over 10 inches. Thus there are 100 "pixels per… -
Re: Which camera should i get?
So many choices Sounds like you are really looking to start having a lot of fun with your photography. I am looking right now on upgrading to a DSLR fo some very specific reasons. With that said, the first thing I would say is that you can do some pretty awesome things with what are labeled as bridge cameras. I do all my… -
Re: another shot at the moon
what's your exif? I'm wondering what your settings are for exposure...the 'ecliptic' path that the moon follows is an area of sky that moves very fast (Earth's rotation). Objects nearer to Polaris (North Star...north pole projected out into space) move slower than objects near the celestial equator (Earth's equator… -
Re: My new BMW R12RT (was "Talk me out of it")
Finally some twisties... I finally got a chance to put the R12RT through the paces in the Santa Cruz Mtns Monday. Temps were in the high 40's much of the time. Grips and seat heaters were set to low and it was a very comfortable ride. I can't wait for that deadbeat down at Cee Bailey's to send me a beta screen. Definitely… -
Re: Question...hopefully to stimulate a conversation
That's where the "interpretation" bit makes me itchy. I recall a thesis defense I once attended where a particularly dimwitted student was attempting to make the case that Immanual Kant was "anti-rational" and some sort of "mystic" in reference to how one obtains moral knowledge. This is absolutley incorrect, and its… -
Re: Dance Studio pictures
If at ALL possible, sell at the time the images are taken!! I can't impress this enough. As someone that has done this several years for over 1300 dancer each year, you will never get the sales you want on-line compared to selling the day the images are taken. Parents are procrastinators and no matter the images, they will… -
Re: Assignment #41: Half-Moon
Shooting the Moon - Technical hi all :) I lurk mostly these days, but I thought I'd share some "math" on shooting the Moon. Some years ago now (using a film SLR) I did astrophotography and taught a lab on it for undergrads in the astronomy department. I get most of my info from a book called Astrophotography for the… -
Re: Finally jumping SLR to DSLR, Canon/Nikon or Olympus?
I currently have 2 E500 bodies that I use. The lenses I have are: 14-54mm 2.8-3.5, 40-150mm 3.5-4.5, 35mm 3.5 macro, and the Sigma 135-400mm 4.5-5.6 14-54mm 2.8-3.5 ($420): This lens is fast, extremely well built, and an excellent size. The new 12-60mm 2.8-3.5 ($1000) lens is virtually the same lens with a slightly…
