Life on a 500,000 acre fire complex for two weeks
I got the call August 1st asking if I was available for an assignment with the Division of Forestry taking an engine from our fire department to a wildland fire in interior Alaska. This year's fire season has been a little late in coming, but hit us all at once with multiple large fires kicking up across the state in late… -
9 days in Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire, and Death Valley
Hi everyone! Bear with me as I've never done this before. Hopefully I won't flub it up too badly. I live in Chattanooga, Tn and am a member of another bulletin board "IBD Sucks" which is a support board for folks with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. No! Don't go running! I promise, this is NOT a visual tour of southwestern… -

Re: LPS Final Feedback Thread
My one cent I was not able to able to participate in LPS so have decided to give a critique instead! I have been watching all the goings on for LPS and must say there are some brilliant photos out there. If only it was not for the really annoying parts, the annoying parts, and the plain missing parts -- let me… -

Re: CanonG7 - the next great Street camera? - General opinions sought too
I am very happy with the camera. As with all things though, the endorsement is qualified. If you are expecting DSLR performance you will be sorely disappointed. By a D40 (or a digirebel, I know we are canon heavy around here) if you want sports, no lag, and easy to hold. Buy this is you want 90% of DSLR ability to fit in… -
Central Florida birthday trip part A
Last year I decided that as each of my remaining nieces and nephews turned 12 (Dane was already 18) I wanted to take them on some sort of "special" trip. My goal was to be able to spend some concentrated time with each of them and really get to know them, and let them get to know me better. I live too far away to be there… -
Egypt, Jordan, and Israel Trip
This trip began with an email from some friends asking if we wanted to go on a trip. Having traveled with them before, we wrote back "sure!". Our next email helped fill in the missing part - "Where are we going?". The answer to that question was Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. Sounded good to us. This trip was going to be a… -
