Canon EOS 5DMkII - first impressions
I know I'm late for the game, but I finally got my hands on this baby last Thursday. Over the weekend I had two shoots, bringing the frame counter to about 400 (yeah, I know, been slow lately, don't shoot as much). Can't really post much results yet, since they are a) not-processed, and b) purely GoFigure/18+ material, but… -
Wedding Lens Horror - glad I was 2nd shooting
So it finally happened, I dropped my body / lens at a wedding... and the lens broke. (I've dropped things short distances before and they've always worked)... Anyhoo... so within the first 10-20 minutes of getting to the bride's house this morning (er yesterday, I guess it's "tomorrow now" I should get some rest soon....)… -
New PC advice: Sell me a mac..
Okay mac-heads, here's your chance to convert another Wintel'er: Sell me a mac.. I've used Windows PCs since Bell labs introduced the transistor.. okay, maybe not quite that long, but I've used PCs for a long time. I've gone up through the ranks from the dark DOS days to 3.1 to '95 to NT, 2000 and now XP. I am one of those… -
Re: Don't let this happen to you...Backup, Backup & Backup!
A suggestion I've read through this thread with interest and thought I should make a suggestion. I recently retired from my computer maintenance and repair business and have seen a lot of situations involving crashes and backups, etc. The information that I've read in this thread regarding external backup drives and… -
Re: The security of Apple Macs
No Security With People Involved. why do I let myself get drawn into these? Actually, Dave & co. who left DEC were VMS (now called OpenVMS) engineers. I'd hold VMS up as more secure than any of the Un*ces, but that's not the question here. He wanted to do Desktop VMS, wasn't given enough funding or freedom (though one… -
Re: Help Fixing Out of Gamut Colors
This isn't going to work because you really can't soft proof and edit using this lab, they don't use the output profile they provide for proofing (silly) and you can't use it to convert to the final color space. Here's the way it should work. Note first, out of gamut colors are out of gamut, unprintable. Nothing will bring… -
Re: Nikon Wedding and Portrait lenses
If your 50mm has a 52mm filter ring, I can send you some close-focus filters. They're not the greatest, I think one set I have is Quantaray and I'm not sure about the other set. I came across them when I was cleaning stuff out and almost threw them away because I haven't used them in ten years or more. PM me your address… -

Re: How do I easily see original download statistics?
Reports, etc. If somebody would ask me to name one thing in the whole programming which is simultaneously very easy and very hard to do, my immediate answer would be "reports". The main issue is called "variety". There are no two people in the whole wide world who would request identical report from the identical set of… -
Re: Photoshop save for web color shift
Still a great thread. Nice work John, especially on the status and how you are moving thru options to deal with this. A very good analogy. Those are actually just benchmarks, and are relevant only when compared to other vehicles MPG. Nothing more. Heck, this year they did a wholesale change in how they are calculated and…
