Extreme up-rezzing
I'm going to have a need to do an extreme up-rez on a photo in the next week or two. Reproduction size will be 8' by 10' (yes, feet), color reproduction on vinyl, and the lab "wants" 300 dpi. Yeah, right (just over 1 billion pixels). I'm gonna give them 100dpi instead, which is still about 115 million pixels. I'll be… -
Weekly Assignment #115: Tron, Alice, etc.
Remember the movie? Or the book? Even if you don't - here's the deal: the primary character somehow shrinks down and gets inside a computer chip, or a rabbit hole, or whatever. This time around your task will be to create a credible composite image showing a person inside some much, much smaller object. The key part is to… -
Re: Polarizer filter
Thanks for the info, Charles. I dropped by SJ Camera today and they had Hoya and B+W in stock. Hoya was about $60 and the B+W was $180! I asked the salesdrone what the difference was and he said the B+W was much better glass and much smoother to use, while the Hoya was "junk made in Thailand or Indonesia or some place like… -
Job Site Pano
Usually panos are of land/cityscapes; don't usually see them of interiors. I'm an electrician and this is a job site we've been working at for a couple days. It's a Ford dealership that's re-doing their showroom, breakroom, and receiving bay. This is a view of the currently boring looking showroom. The lights in the… -
A no-brainer (Off-topic, TV, Phone, Internet)
Man, I r dum. I've been paying through the nose for phone, tv, and internet. * Cable Internet: $50/month (high-ish, b/c I wasn't using their Cable TV) * DirecTV Satellite: $115/month (1Tivo, 4 sets, all the channels) * Verizon Phone Service: $85 per month Total: $250 per month * Cable Internet * Local and US, Canada… -
D700 L Bracket, D700/300 grip with En-EL4 batt/charger
Nikon MB-D10 grip with box and all items originally supplied therein (e.g., AA battery tray and EN-EL3 battery tray). I'll also include the Nikon BL-3 battery chamber cover that let's you use the high capacity EN-EL 4 size battery -- the only way to get 8 FPS, a generic EN-EL4 battery and a generic charger for the EN-EL4.… -
FS: Battery Grip for 20/30D
Price Drop This works w/ the 40D as well. This is an aftermarket grip (Optika I believe) however, the quality is excellent and it is like new. Better yet, it allows you to do auto time lapse photography either via every X seconds or at a specific time it will shoot. I paid somewhere around $190 willing to sell it for $115… -
Re: Sigma 50mm, f1.4 HSM Review
it looks very nice. I am a big fan of EX HSM lenses. However, I think the 77mm filter size is a bonus, it matches all my other filters. It is a rather large lens physically though, can't wait for pictures. edit: the review isnt up yet, but www.thedigitalpicture.com has comparison images...here is the Sigma vs Canon 50m 1.4… -
Re: Need some group therapy on lens selection
I'm not convinced that's true from my experience, or by this: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=115&FLI=0&API=4&LensComp=398&FLIComp=4&APIComp=0&Camera=453&CameraComp=474&Sample=0&SampleComp=0 You can play around with different apertures too. Looks like the 50 1.4 wins across the… -
Re: Specific tripod selections, narrowed down to three choices
Yeah the 40 does have a little higher load capacity than the 488 does (.4 lbs) so I don't know how much larger the ball is, where as the BH-55 jumps it up to 50lbs vs the GH2780QR at 30.86lbs. I also like the knob vs the lever on the 55 vs the 40. 488 - 17.6lbs $115 BH-40 - 18lbs $390 GH2780QR - 30.86lbs $350 BH-55 - 50lbs…
