Re: Help Me Pick the Right Nikkor Lens!
Thanks again, Bill! I was out a bit earlier this evening and did manage to pick up the 50mm f/1.8. It was a demo model (in perfect condition) that I snagged for $99. So that still leaves me a lot to play with when I finally decide how to spend the rest. I'm really pleased with the performance of the 50/1.8. It was quite an… -
Re: My first event with my new ExpoDisc
Honestly, I bought an Expo disc a few years ago and hardly ever use it. I actually left it in Florida with my associate photographer the last time I traveled over there to shoot a wedding with him. This is probably a bit harsh advice, but honestly I'd return it if you can and just learn Kelvin WB. Taking a few test shots… -
Re: Length to Keep Files
(RANT) What we're saying is that THIS is part of what has severely damaged the industry. This aspect of "digital delivery", where consumers get comforted by the *idea* that they have a copy of the image files, or the *idea* that their images will be online forever, ...and what this leads to is indecision, procrastination,… -
Re: Why so much?
But I believe very few folks are upgrading from film -> dSLR. I think the far more common move is from digital point-and-shoot -> dSLR in the mistaken belief that they will get better pictures. In reality (or in my initial experience), all they really get is the ability to take the same level of pictures, just faster. In… -
Re: Compact Flash image recovery? Very odd problem...
Thanks SO much, all! Ziggy, I've had the card be completely full with no problem. i also ran the Lexar diagnostics and they found nothing... Maybe it was the Fat32.... Regardless, I'm going to be changing up my process immediately. With the money from this wedding, I'm hoping to get a laptop. Since it'll be my secondary… -
Re: ? for the Ladies: How did/do you handle pregnancy?
I had all these same worries about pregnancy and booking clients. All very good questions and concerns :D especially this being your first. With my first, i will still just starting out, so i didn't have many bookings yet, but i ended up shooting a wedding about 5 days before my son was born. We also knew we were moving to… -
Re: Thursday Night Throwback GT vs UVA
feedback Hey, must be nice to have good seats to college football :D I'm going to give you two reviews here: Review 1: These are some very nice fan shots from the stands. You've caught some interesting action here and definitely better than 99% of the rest of the fans are going to come away with. So, enjoy. From a sports… -
Re: Buying lenses at B&H..what filter ?
J: I appear to belong to that "other" religion. :D H: My thoughts on filters for protection: J: Any and all glass in front of the lens will impart some amount of flare, scatter, ghosting, or distortion and aberrations. Flare from specular highlights within or just outside of the frame; scatter from light hitting the filter… -
Re: File Names Appear in Keyword positon
That doesn't solve the problem though. My photos have text in them that get imported and show up in the list of keywords. Furthermore, I have many keywords with numbers in them. When I enter them offline in an metadata editor (e.g. Bridge), they don't show up in the keyword list. If you look at any site that aggregates… -
Re: Keep 'em all or delete a ton - what do you do?
I end up keeping every image in some form or another, thanks to the wonders of keeping "backups" on the internet. I don't keep every raw though, as realistically it's highly unlikely I'll go back and process any image I didn't go through and process the first time. Keeping every image provides for keeping all the memories.…
