Re: Shooting motocross 2009 style.
thanks again for all your input. I'm at a bit of a crossroads. My D40 has been deemed unrepairable after sending it in for service via my Best Buy extended warranty. Good news- I get my original purchase price towards new camera = approx $700. Bad news- I don't know what to buy. Best Buy only sells the Canon 50D with a… -
Re: Should I Sell My 70-200 f4?
I think it comes down to either keeping the 70-200 or replacing the two lenses with a 24-70. If you're never using the 70-200, there's really no reason to have it, and I would wholeheartedly recommend getting a 24-70 (or 24-105, but I'd rather have the 2.8 than the IS). Look at your bag and see the holes in your lineup… -
Re: Help Baldy shoot for a 72x240-inch print
Good stuff. Thanks for all the advice. We got a 60x72-inch print in the office today and it got us really excited about the pano we're trying to shoot... Sam and I made our first attempt to get the skyline pano Saturday night. Skies were quite clear, but it wasn't an epic day. He brought a 1DsMKIII with a 600mm and I… -
Re: Which LowePro Slingshot for me?
I have the Slingshot 300AW. It can carry most of my camera equipment at the same time. Currently I have in it my 28-135, 18-55, 430EX, 580EX, Fong Lightsphere, filters, battery chargers, and my XTi with 70-200 attached. It still has space for manuals, flash meters, and another lens or two and I can hang my tripod off of… -
Re: "Credentials" for freelance Event Photography
Thanks Tyler, I am not actually planning to shot "sports" per se. I live on the right coast and I have a "yacht" that I spend every weekend on. I am also in the process of reinventing myself and developing a new career since stress and depression ended my first career and put me on disability. I have my virtual shingle out… -
Re: What was your very first Camera ? Please post Pictures. This shall be interesting.
My first camera was a Kodak Bakelite Baby Brownie. I shot that thing until the shutter no longer worked. Later, I dissected the body and converted the shutter to open and shut with the shutter button; down button opened the shutter and up button closed the shutter. Fine for time exposures and some special effects. (After… -
Re: Lenses?
The grandmother who "shoots"........ I've been a grandmother a long time................I just want to see all those lenses in a baby stroller, sounds good to me (all those lenses, I mean:D ). As I mention often, I have three lenses. No glass. I prefer camera to lenses. Will never afford glass, even if I took the great… -
Re: "Lighting Lingo" Question
I use a formula called a Sekonic 358 meter Works great at balancing ISO, shutter, and aperture. Seriously, I've never been very good with ratios or watt seconds or guide numbers-- but f/stops make perfect sense to me. So I just meter everything I shoot unless I'm shooting an event and using ETTL and a hotshoe strobe. Even… -
Re: best lens
Lenses Since it is low-light you are shooting go for fast lenses. f/2.8 or better. Auto-focus needs light to work, so a faster lens helps that at night. Also your 20D will focus better (on the center point) with lenses 2.8 or faster, so its worth the extra money. Primes will be less money than zooms. The 24-70/2.8 is a…
