Re: Help with an system decision
Whitley, First, welcome to the Digital Grin. There is nothing wrong with using the Nikon D80 as a wedding camera. I do suggest that images above ISO 800 may have more visible noise than is usually desirable for enlargements. The Nikon D300 is much better controlled in high-ISO noise and I suspect that for the ceremony… -
Re: > The Dgrin Sharp Shooters Challenges - General Discussion
Hi Jenn, All I can say is hang in there and be patient ... very patient. It takes a tremendous amount of work and dedication to make progress in photography, it just simply won't happen overnight. I am also not one of those people who thinks that gears don't matter ... they do, believe me, they do. If they didn't, we would… -
Re: 1/2/3 Stop Mean
Bill, if your lens is a kit lens, the widest aperture you can go to is f3.5 at 18mm and f5.6 at 55mm. A more expensive lens will have a constant aperture. A 70-200L f2.8 only has one f stop number. This lens will open to F2.8 throughout the zoom range. Will is right. There is more to DOF than just aperture size. Distance… -
Re: My Nikon's here!!!
Indeed, I've just been testing it around the house and only yesterday I had a chance to shoot something of real interest. Anyway, thanks to all who congratulated me. Digital guy: believe me, I looked extensively at all cameras Moving on, I love this camera, insanely fast, control, no delays, bokeh... you know I shot almost… -
Re: Vionna
I too plan to go with Radio Poppers rather than the flawed "new" PW's.....and theres more to it than a simple loss of range. Many of the reports I have read state that the PW's do not allow for the full + or - 3 stops FEC that we can dial in on a 580EX. You are limited to the +/- 2 stops available via the camera menu.… -
Re: Night Heron/Egret new (3/17/2006)
bump I took these yesterday before dusk, late afternoon, hence the gold in the light. I took a lot of photos, many of Night Herons, and some of egrets, even a gator (I never post the gators). But I just worked these two up as I was particularly fond of them at the time I was sorting the photos. They are now on page two. I… -
Re: Headshot advice?
im new to this but i had success shooting this girl's headshots with a very similar setup. dont use the kit lens. use your zoomer. the 75-300 is ok, i had the upgrade to that, the 70-300 which has better IQ. and the 430ex as well. id use natural light at first, late afternoon in the shade. this way you can use a nice low… -
Re: MTF Charts
This is probably going to be confusing also The Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 lens Sigma 17-30mm f/2.8 - f/4 MTF charts are great. For me it is more informative to compare charts of comparable lenses as opposed to a high power zoom and a wide angle prime. When reading the charts, I like to look at the thin blue an black lines for… -
Re: The boss said go for it! Now I need your help!
Personally I really like the 5D for candids. It has the same AF system as the 30D, so if you know that, it'll be just as snappy. Would I like a 1 series AF system? Sure, but not at the extra cost and weight. I have not yet had a chance to play with a 40D yet, so I don't know how the AF systems compare. When the 5D II… -
Re: Sekonic L-758DR / Canon 1D-X / Canon 580 EX II
The PWs win hands down. The miniTT1 and the flexTT5 are radio based devices, whereas the ST-E2 is a line of sight optical device. No comparison, for reliability, and range. They do cost more as well, and are more complex to learn to fully utilize. They do support ETTL, but most folks using PWs are probably shooting in…
