The Wild Pacfic Coast (Three beaches in Olympic National Park)
The weather hasn't been great around here for the last month, varying between rain, snow, ice (crippling transit, commuters), and then more rain (causing floods, mudslides...). So when I found out there might be a chance of sun on the coast for the weekend, it didn't take me long to figure out where I was going to be. I… -
Re: Quantaray lens...
I fell for it! A few weeks ago I had some money to burn and had my heart set on a dedicated macro prime lens. On the radar were the Canon 100/2.8 and EF-S 60/2.8, and the Sigma 50/2.8 and 105/2.8. I walked into my local Ritz Camera to see what they had and what sort of prices they were asking. I asked for the Sigma… -
Re: New D90 test shots
yeah I don't know what was going on with my colors. I did do a little pp but not a lot with the coloring, i probably should have. I know at one point when shooting i realized I had the wb in "shade" mode and then another point (if this matters) I was in "portrait setting." On the first one, we were being hit directly by… -
Re: Visions In My Head
Thanks Scott....forgot my flash cord and ended up not using flash. (Bad, I know). I was shooting with the 24-105. #4 was shot at 80mm and #5 at 47mm. I had turned away to walk over to my gear and totally forgot to change my settings as they changed position. :bash Seems to be a favorite trick of mine! You would think by… -
Re: Merchandise Photography
A product shoot should be preceded with a very detailed specification of the client's requirements. Such specification should be included in the contract, or at least attached either in full or by reference. For lenses: either your 50 or your 17-85 will get the job done. If you have the space, I would choose the 50 for the… -

Re: Are the Smugmug servers overloaded?
1316/396 from Tampa Bay Road Runner. That's a bit thin, since I know my line is good for 4000-5000 to, say, Speakeasy Atlanta. Alas, I can't do a 'good' traceroute at the moment conveniently (WinMTR requires admin privs on 2000, and no linux boxen in the room -- and windows' traceroute is ... less than useful... but I… -
Re: Just to Prove I do Listen
Thanks Diva. FWIW, here was my thought process (as TRULY amended by the recent discussions on here) As to shot number 1, I very purposely framed them on the stone wall between the two windows. I like the symmetry and it showed that they were on a portico rather than just in front of a wall. The width of the shot is the max… -
Re: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS vs Non-IS??
Yes, I've long been a fan of the 135 f/2 + 70-200 f/4 kit. In my opinion it is much more versatile than a single 70-200 2.8, with our without IS, and it doesn't break your shoulders to shoot with either of those lenses. (Of course I do understand that the combined weight and price of the 135 and 70-200 f/4 is probably up… -
Re: Got my first wedding gig next year!
Justin, The absolute best thing you can do for both yourself and the bride & groom is, to simply know you gear, know your posing, and go into the job with confidence. I've shot weddings on Nikon digital gear since 2004 when the D70 first came out; and have shot weddings with each camera since then including the D200 and…
