Re: Soft Proofing - What Am I Getting Wrong?
Thanks for the Help George, Thanks for the detailed response! However, I was looking for some help geared more towards how to properly use softproofing during my post processing in PS and less towards how to print to a particular printer. I am struggling to get prints that match my monitor through Smugmug (ezPrints). The… -
Re: 24-70L arrived
Definitely just a test and basically a grab shot, but glad you liked it! Since this has been re-bumped, just to mention that Qarik was absolutely right - out shooting with it today it didn't really seem that heavy at all (particularly with my nice, weight-distributing Optech strap), so I think it's just a case of getting… -
Re: Austin-San Antonio Christmas Meetup
My flow is RAW->LR2 nothing special. I keep the sharpen jacked up to about 70 with the mask at about 85 or 90 but otherwise, I'm running the LR2 defaults. I posted my PP'ed images here. Looking at your 2009 East Coast Tour images, do you nominally jack the vibrancy in your defaults? LR2 knows about lenses so if you are… -
Re: First Engagement Photos - As a Favor
Trust me I can totally relate. I came from an outdoor / adventure photography background too, and I've taken PLENTY of portraits at f/8 in my earlier years. But the reason you pay $2000 for a lens instead of $200 is the wide-open sharpness, among other things. Honestly with the sharpness that today's lenses provide, if you… -
Re: Varsity Volleyball - in a yellow gym cc welcome
Hello Amanda, Thanks for the comment. For me it is better to have someone tell me what I am messing up then for me to see it myself. So thanks, I always think my stuff is just okay. I have not education in photography just alot of helpful people willing to say if you do this or that along the way that has made a tremendous… -
Re: AF: EF vs EF-S?
My only question for the tester is what focal length were the tests performed at. It would stand to reason that at WA the 17-55 would hunt more as it has more real estate to stimulate the focal points, and it is harder to grab onto one spot and stick with it. I've killed 2 IS units in my 17-55 so I'd say I am a heavy user… -
Re: My First Bald Eagle Shots
Yep, Bigma = Sigma 50-500mm f/4 - f/6.3. As I got more into long range BIF & Raptors, I realized that my Pany FZ5 and then the FZ30 were good for their price point out to 420mm but the allure of a dSLR with much better IQ, AF speed, low noise etc were what I needed. With my limited budget, I did a lot of due diligence and… -
Re: Rebel XT Questions
If you want a macro/portrait lens, I'd suggest the EF-S 60/2.8 macro rather than the EF 50/2.5 macro. The 60 does 1:1 closeups (the 50 only 1:2) and gets rave reviews. Honestly, the 18-55 isn't a bad lens - indoors with flash it works just fine and lets you see what kind of shooting you'll be doing in the future for a very… -
Re: Sigma 105mm or Tamron 90mm Macro
Plenty of praise here: http://www.photographyreview.com/sf-1/pid-25237994/befid-96323/productreviewscrx.aspx This guy says it's "too sharp" for portrait work, and has issues with focus speed and the lens hood. (I would bet the contrast is too much for portrait work, and that can be accomodated in software. I don't believe… -
Re: Tips for shooting a guerilla fashion event??
Jason, I shoot landscapes a lot more than people, so.... I do think you will want a lens wider than 17mm on a crop body at least some of the time. And one longer than 50mm at times. If you can swing it, I would take two bodies - one with a real wide zoom ~ 12-24, and a 24-85 or thereabouts. I think you will find both…
