Re: Aerial Photographer needed...
The thread is interested from a perspective of what people think it costs to do photography. I'm probably beating a dead horse upstream without a paddle here. So here is an (made up...errr...right) example of pro work verses RTF student work. Pro: Owns: high quality glass, multiple bodies. Experience: Seasoned in many… -
Re: This competition vs original ideas and such
This is what I personally love about dgrin: it shows that it is in fact possible to combine a rather fierce competition with a friendly, home-like atmosphere. As to sharing tips: I haven't seen a single example where those tips actually helped any entry to make it from #100 to #1. Maybe from #5 to #3. And definitely from… -
Re: Questions about HDR
That's certainly one way of doing it, but I find all the painting and masking very tedious, so here's a different method, which works wonders when you have several images to work with (it doesn't work very well with just 2 - 3 images). 1) Open all your images in Photoshop and stack them so that you have them all in… -
Re: My first "shoot" - Family Portraits
David...thanks for the great critque. I updated the pictures with the EXIF info. Ever since smugmug updated to the new and improved interface...I have not found how to quick link the EXIF file....so I just copied the pop up box. Most of these I had some fill flash from my 580EX 1. Advice well taken. She was swinging...so I… -
Re: Mamiya Cameras???
Mamiya have been around for a very long time and specialise in larger format equipment. Mamiya are now owned by (or they bought??) Phase One. If you've not heard of Mamiya I'll assume you've not heard much about Medium or Large format film (apologies if you have) - so a brief history lesson. Medium format film is larger… -
Re: rear sync flash did not fire at end of exposure
page 72 of your manual A Flash Modes The flash modes listed on the previous page may combine one or more of the following settings, as shown by the flash mode icon: • AUTO (auto flash): When lighting is poor or subject is back lit, flash pops up automatically when shutter-release button is pressed halfway and fires as… -
Re: Would the "famous" photogs be "famous" without their subjects/budgets/resources?
I thought twice about my reply because, like the OP, I know it will cause controversy … yet controversy (within reason) can be good. If a work of “art”, say a painting, has been around for many years and been bought and sold for thousands then millions because of its "artisticness", "beauty", “creativity”, whatever ... all… -
Re: Aquariums
You probably want to avoid any flash but ratehr set your ISO as high as you are comfortable with (I use 1600). You will want to use as high a shutter speed as the low light situations will allow, but will suffer with very little depth of field as you will most often be shooting wide open or close to it. (large aperture).… -
Re: digitial dust
heh... sensor dust. my goodness, have i had to deal with that. thankfully, i learned the trick... i climb in the dirt, dust, mud, and crap all day long for my shoots. dirtbikes, supermoto, and road racing are what i make my living off of. hell, just a few days ago, i was getting tire particles blowing all over me, my… -
Re: New to Sports. CC please ;)
Thanks for popping in GP and Kevin. I'm so glad you 2 chimed in on the framing. I really was actuallky trying my best on the framing (especially later in the day with the portrait orientation shots) and just couldn't avoid cropping a shoe or hand. I am always so weary of cropping *due to degredation of quality. BUT if you…
