Re: Color to B&W Digital Darkroom Assignment for the Week: 4/16-4/23
Color theory in B+W conversion Here is a very simple color to b+w excercise. Consider this image: Here's what happens when PS converts it to grayscale: Not very nice, eh? What's going on? Although the colors of the stripes are very different, I chose them carefully to have identical luminosity, using photoshop's luminosity… -
Re: Setting up a home studio and (perhaps) starting to sell some photos.
some more from personal experience.... PVC is cheap but it will not hang well over a 9-12' span with out center support (experience here) I use 1 10ft 2"PVC on my portable backdrop holder and since it has no way to roll it (sprocket and chain system) it is a pain to roll a 20' long backdrop up by hand, so I highly… -
Re: Porrtraits: Masha and Nadya
It's quite a long while since I looked at your pics, Yuri. To my eyes you are at a new high level with this set. Two things mainly impress me, first these images succeed by the lighting, and yet the lighting is not what dominates. I made a comment in another thread here recently that I was struggling to achieve just that… -
Re: Shooting motocross 2013
thanks! didn't shoot much practice, coming to Dallas from NY the 60 degrees and sunny weather and all the vibe/fun in the pits kept me out doors for most of practice. If I had known I could have gotten the big lens in the stadium as easy as I could have, I would have been more inclined to try and shoot more practice… -
Re: New toys on the way!
I think I have found my perfect tool for many situations indoors. The 86" extreme silver PLM. Wasn't sure about it when I first tried it because the light is so focused in the center. You really need to pay attention to where you aim the center rod. I have always liked the ease of umbrellas. This thing is like an umbrella… -
Re: FHRA Spring Nationals 2013 (Motopark, Finland)
This is definitely a great way to get nice wheels up shots with the team and spectating competitors watching from behind, and the further out you go past the 60 foot markers with longer telephoto lens the flatter and much more intimate the image gets. This works great on some cars that look best from some angles and even… -
Re: Publish bound books
Okay here's the deal. My Mom works for a company called Viatech Publishing. One part of their business is printing just about anything. They use the DocuTech which apparently is awesome and they let you choose your paper, layout, binding, etc. etc. etc. Without a large order a hardbound book would be expensive but a… -

Re: Photoshop CC Update
Yes, a layer adjusted with a certain tools is a permanent change to that layer, but that layer may be deleted and replaced with a layer using that tool differently. For example, I'll create a blank layer and use that layer to clone. The advantage is that I can use the eraser tool on the blank layer to modify the cloning or… -
Re: Several 5dII questions :)
Thanks Mitchell - yumminess indeed. Also, definitely a learning curve since even though the buttons are in the same places as on the 7d, nothing responds in quite the same way; it's actually a bigger change from 7d>5dII than it was from xsi>7d, so I'm guessing it's just getting used to the different meter and the different…
