Re: Processing flowers for wedding....
Awais, did you participate in the LAB book reading? If you did, rutt did a review of the chapter on Margulis portrait workflow. The technique is commonly used by a lot of pros - they create the best B&W image they can in one of the RG or B channels and use that to blend into the color image to create better blacks and… -
Re: Tips on travel
Good advice so far. My feelings: * Take plenty of memory. More than normal, because you're likely to shoot more than you normally would. * Batteries, batteries, batteries. Take a charger. But also have enough batts on you for a busy day of shooting, because you won't be able to recharge until you get back to the hotel.… -
Re: About to Go Insane. (I Need Your Advice.)
I'd be very curious what particular camera you were using and what ISO settings you were using. Also, what the typical shutter speed for your blurry images. (I.E., is the blur from lack of focus, or from too slow a shutter speed?) Chances are good that it is a combination. Low-light doesn't offer a lot for the camera to… -
Re: landscape photography tips
I would do a few things Skippy (excellent question BTW!). First I would wait until I could shoot at sunrise or sunset to reduce the amount of latitude (the number of stops between the shadows and the highlights). Too many scenics are taken at high noon, and it's just the wrong time of day. Just like Andy said: scout out… -
Re: Chapter 4, Professional Photoshop, 5th Edition
I thought I agreed to do the chapter on ACR. I might be willing to do some other chapters as well. I played some with the Barn picture. The negative slope comes largely because you were determined to put some contrast in the sky, and this basically causes you to write conflicting curves. The issue may be better handled… -
Re: Lighting kit for a newbie
I too missed that you have a 580EX. As for where to go from there, it depends on what you want to do. If your primary goal is headshots or head and shoulders, triggering the 580 with an ST-E2 and using a reflector as fill works quite well. For that rig, I bring an umbrella, a 48" diameter white reflector, a holder for… -
Re: I have some questions regarding weddings
Julie - dont take this the wrong way but you're taking money to record the most important day in these peoples' lives. Not having backup equipment is not an option. 2 bodies, 2 flashes, etc. This isn't senior pictures that can be re-scheduled in case of a failure. You have a professional obligation to have the necessary… -
Re: Travelling to Thailand and need advice....
Hi Ryan (first, let me say I needed to close my eyes to your Flames avatar!!! ) WRT storage, 1. do not choose a lesser photo quality - you just never know when you are going to take the shot of a life time. Not worth the risk of not having a big enough file for later printing large IMO. 2. recently my local Costco had 1… -
Re: Merchandise Photography
I have been avoiding this thread, but it looks like no one is responding. "Your post left me with a lot of questions. I would recommend clarifying with your client exactly what they intend to use the images for, and exactly what their expectations are. Determine color space, file format, and as much specific detail as…
