Re: Canon 50mm f/1.2L
In my world, an variation of 1/8th of a stop or even 1/6th of a stop is insignificant to the final image. As for accuracy of aperture reading by manufacturers - they vary all over the map. See below. Look at some of your telephoto lenses and measure the diameter in millimeters ( or centimeters if you prefer ). Take this… -
Re: Hurricane Frances...
Doug, you and I are of the same thinking, and I have been through a devastating hurricane where I lost everything, back in 1989. Shopping for water wouldn't have helped much there. I do understand batteries, I am constantly talking "batteries", but I get them someplace fast. Gas is essential, or good to have, and cash.… -
Re: Poll about something that came up with Bay Photo.
So you were talking to people who were not currently smugmug customers... I assisted for a high end wedding photographer in DC for a couple of years, and they employed people who did little but PP on scanned film AND digital. I'm not sure how they are working it now, but I doubt they have farmed it out. I think it was… -
Re: Lacrosse Quiz
Thank you for the compliment about my shots. Don't be so regretful about waiting a few weeks for play to start in Maryland -- I have only gotten to shoot so far in mid-30 degree weather and in one case, in the snow (probably snow again this coming weekend). I'd take March in Maryland over February in Providence anyday if… -
Re: WB Harry and what I learned yesterday
Thanks Ginger :D You're right, I'm a whiner All I'm trying to do is improve my shots. Harry's analogy to golf was a good one. When you first start golfing, you are thrilled to break 100. As you practice and get better, you are no longer satisfied breaking 100. Your goal is to break 90, then 80, and eventually to shoot par… -
Re: Image Corruption with Sandisk CFast cards in the 1Dx Mk II
I think the useable ISO continues to rise, up to 6400-12800, if the files are not under exposed. The CFast cards are a real speed improvement over the CF cards for downloading, and I am sure the video people find them better for video, but that is not a consideration for me. I like that the GPS is built in and not outside… -
Re: New Photo Editor
Hey, sorry, disclaimer: I haven't kept up on this thread since I last posted but we did talk to Denise and I do have some news. I know many of you will disagree with much of this, but I'll tell you what we're thinking so you know. We think there's a difference between bulk editing and batch editing, even though they sound… -
Re: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS vs Non-IS??
I will say this, however: If you want to reach the highest end clientele, you do have to invest a little bit into being "flashy". Extremely rich people are all about status symbols, and therefore anyone who wishes to be extremely rich also seems to be the same way. I've been to many weddings where the bride and groom… -
Re: Disney World - What to Bring??
Good general Disney points; I neglected to mention some of them: * Any WDW Cast Member (that's what they call their employees) will take your photo with your camera for you if you ask, unless their duties prevent it. * Maps of the parks are available at racks at each park entrance, at the front desk of every WDW resort… -
Re: The 7DmkII Thread.
I'm guessing (as are you) that the cost of the sensor isn't all that significant. They put 18mp sensors in $700 cameras. They put a full framed sensor in a camera that costs less than the 7DMKII. I would guess that even if a large mega pixel sensor was 3 or 4 times the cost of a crop sensor. The cost of the camera could be…
