Re: manual flash?
Ahhh... and there is the slippery slope! I've thought about this a lot recently and I don't want to work too cheap because I don't want the discount weddings. I'll take what I can get, but I need to find some fairytales along the way. Shooting for an established studio can give me that. She charges a fair rate and it is a… -
Re: D40 or D50?
While I'm not new to digital cameras I am pretty darn new to digital SLRs. I've a couple brands of P&S digis (and would reccommend Olympus). My film camera is an ancient Canon with equally ancient lens (circa the early-mid 80s). So, spring 2006 when I decided to spring the $$ and get a dSLR I went brand shopping. I was… -
Re: Need some advice......
Mike, You have 2 of Canon's finest lenses. The Canon 40D is still a great camera. While the Nikon D300 is a wonderful camera, and $1200 is probably a very good price (depending on the condition of the camera), I am not sure if stwitching would really get you much additional functionality. Better bokeh is produced by lens… -
Re: Oregon lighthouse, feedback requested on 4 versions
Photomatix free trial at HDRsoft.com If I didn't move the camera much while adding the filter and adjusting the exposure, I may be able to blend the detail of #2 with the color of #4. I could even superimpose these on the original shots with EXIF, save in JPG, then let Panoramio pull the detail from #2, preserving the… -
Re: A different perspective...
I hope you didn't feel like I was singling you out because I mentioned your post, Tony. It was simply mentionable in regards to this discussion. You're certainly not alone in your distaste for what is often emphasized around here. Although I would agree that wanting to yawn before even opening the post is a little extreme,… -
Re: Compact Flash vs SD
Memory cards have a very small processor section as part of their "controller", which, it (the controller section) turns out, is very key to overall speed in a system. SD cards were produced after CF (compact flash) and tend to come in two speeds, slow and much faster. The slower cards are usually distinguished by not… -
Re: The Steinway
We have one from the 80's... and they really haven't changed in design much! lol. I like the reflections shot concept a lot too. It's not clear in the wide shots whether or not you're wanting us to look at the piano, the building, or both. Your title says Steinway piano, so I'll respond to that being the subject of the… -
Re: Actor Jesse.
Just for you, Nikolai, I've numbered the photos. (Okay, everyone else too. :D) Miguel and Nikolai. I agree with every point you two have made and will take them to heart. Very good advice. Thank you very much. I'd had the camera set to "More Vivid", and while precessing these few I saw that I should have set it… -
Re: having a terrible time adjusting image size in CS3
What's do you mean by "resize with nearest neighbor" with reference to distortions popping up? Re resolution, I think you're saying that for web output just leave default as is, at 240, one less thing to think about. Correct? Re dimensions, you hit the nail on the head when you said get it close to size (I used 8'x10"),… -
Re: Spring Road
Thanks kindly Don! Processing is just a tool to help you drive towards the goal one has and that can vary. I only shoot if the light is worth shooting in. If I catch good light, then that eliminates the need to try add something extra or create something new. I didn't have to do much to these images. Of course there are…
