Re: Two different monitors question
Matching monitor to printer can be tricky. The key is that the monitor is usually too bright as compared to the printer. Most LCD monitors out of the box have their brightness jacked up so that white luminosity is on the order of 300 cd/m2. You need to get that down between 110 and 130 cd/m2. The standard calibration point… -
Re: First paid senior Portrait Gig...
Thank you. I wanted to bring out the colors of the day a lot w/o it looking to fake, I think it works well for that. The skin tones I tried in most to desat them as much as possible to bring them away from the red. His skin was very red that day, for what reason I don't know, but it was. These are brought down quite a bit… -
Re: Grassroots dgrin shootout - The Mother Road
Here is another itinerary from SM pier. I don't think the SM pier and the 110Fwy would be very photogenic though. Start at intersection of Ocean Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd. Head east on Santa Monica Blvd. Through Beverly Hills and West Hollywood Right onto Sunset Blvd. south. 110 Freeway North. It ends on Arroyo Parkway.… -
Re: Planning trip to Canadian Rockies - any suggestions?
Well first of all stay off the Trans Canada as much as possible if time is not an issue. Sometimes you need to take it if your destination requires you to take it and the views are spectacular as well. However there are better routes. Lets start at Calgary. You can take numerous routes to get west . Lets explore the… -
Re: Thumbnails on new image picker are mighty small
Two follow-ups to my post above. The use of square or original aspect ratio thumbnails in the picker appears to be tied to whether the square thumbnails flag is set to on and off for SmugMug style galleries. The flag nominally defines the appearance of the thumbs on the left side of the screen in SmugMug style. It gets set… -
Re: To Drobo or not to Drobo
Satisfied customer I've had a Drobo v2 (the one with USB2 and FW800) for a year now and absolutely love it. I think it's probably a great backup solution, although I use mine for fault-tolerant primary storage. If you like Apple products, you'd probably be quite pleased with a Drobo. In my experience, it "just works", as… -
Re: Travel camera
Hehehe - Jack, I never said I despised the Fuji, just that it's outside my budget! Also, I'd prefer a zoom; with one camera and a mix of sightseeing, country walks, social events, and just maybe some quickie informal headshots, I'm thinking a fixed prime may feel rather limiting. As for the s95 - some of my best-ever shots… -
