Re: Discussion on Spec sales
I agree with most everything that has been said so far. The bad economy and “good enough” photos from whomever seem to be the biggest downer for spec sales. I have not necessarily seen an increase in parents with a new dslr or an increase in people giving away their photos for free. I think a lot of families are cutting… -

Re: Focus modes for fast moving objects
D90 using AF-A or AF-C Thanks for starting this thread. I have the same issue. I occasionally have opportunities to shoot birds in flight with the D90 and have been using this set up; Dynamic Area, AF-A, center focus area = Wide, 4.5 f/s burst mode, S mode @ 1200/sec (usually) Thom Hogan's guide to the D90 claims that the… -
Re: Shooting live music with non-metering MF lenses?
Club or concert and what genre of music.....makes a difference at least it did to me for my style of shooting......... As Ziggy 53 stated shoot raw......depending on the lighting you may need to compensate for backlighting......some recent concerts I attended (but did not shoot any pics at) were heavily back… -
Re: Call of the North
Call of the North (11): Whales, birds and Blue Lagoons July 22nd They say that in Iceland whale watching and whale hunting vessels anchor next to each other in the ports. We tried to identify them, couldn't though. Whale hunting is a hot topic in Iceland, highly political and emotional. Together with Norway (don't know the… -
Re: Travel to Pacific Island - which camera to buy?
If you are getting rid of the Sony I recommend at least 2 - dSLR bodies and then a small, waterproof P&S as well (for your underwater needs at snorkel depth). As you said, you have almost no local resources for equipment repairs so 2 bodies is almost a necessity. (I presume you could have something flown in from time to… -
Re: DO you bring a printed portfolio or digital?
I am going to be aliment about my recommendation. TAKE PRINTS! Photography is a visual medium. Having an image that looks good on a computer monitor is only a part of the process. It doesn’t matter what the image on the computer looks like. What really counts is how it looks printed, matted, framed, and presented to the… -
Re: Walmarts portrait studio goes on-location!?
Negative on the Qualex connection - I used to work closely with Qualex, as they were one of our major vendor/partners. I was a buyer for a retail chain and Qualex supplied both our on-site and off-site photofinishing. They were a great business partner for many years, supplying exactly what the masses wanted, inexpensive… -
Re: Skin retouch, 2nd try......
Well I'm pretty happy with what I have so far until something better comes along. If anyone's interested here's the process. (SAMPLE PICTURE) Not mine........ [FONT=Geneva, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] First I'm assuming you've done the necessary blemish removal and all that fine stuff. 1. Always duplicate your…
