Re: Gallery Tools and Uploader Limits
I disagree. I've used this version of xcompare without fail for almost a decade. I initially didn't know if it would work as well with NTFS as it did with FAT, but I've done enough testing to validate its use. (The only limitation is on long filenames, which it uses the truncated version to compare so there can be compare… -
Re: Thought on pricing
I can say in all honesty I do this all the time and find it quite effective on those clients that aren't just whingeing about price because any price is too much. I have used examples for weddings many times. Having a reasonable knowledge of hire car prices i have compared the costs of wedding photography the couple have… -
Re: 10 vs 12 JPEG
First off, is the original poster actually suggesting that Smugmug should make JPEG 10 the maximum JPG compression they allow for uploaded images, to save server space? Correct me if I interpreted wrongly but in response, I don't think it's possible (or at least optimal) for an image hosting site to actually screen… -
Re: Display Calibration
For monitors, at the budget end of the $$$ scale, look to either the Datacolor Spyder3 Elite - about $180-90 at B&H. On sale recently for $148 at B&H. or Xrite i1Display Pro (new, replaces the i1Display 2) - about $250 at B&H last week. I've specifically mentioned these due you indicating that you are looking to a dual… -
Re: Why so much?
Hmh, interesting thread. It would certainly be nice if some of the higher end lenses were a bit less expensive - I think the extra numbers sold might compensate for the lower initial profit. However, there are some bargains to be had. The Canon 50 1.8 (about £70 in the UK) is fantastic for the price - I wish that their… -
Re: SM footer link no longer hidden
I can't believe what I've just read. OK. So, I woke this morning, and with a clear day ahead of me, I thought I'd do some tinkering with my smart Smugmug website - of which I am actually quite proud. I mean, I'm always playing around with colours and layout etc cos there are so many options... I wonder a lot about how I… -
Re: November Cruise to Bermuda
I stopped on the way back and took a photo of the (real) watergate. We got back just about in time for dinner. Bob had three starters - shrimp cocktail, mango pineapple soup (which I had also and which was very good), and clam chowder (and I had that too). He tried the salmon again and this time was able to eat it all. I… -
2000 miles in a Baja Bug
"My baja bug approaching wheeler mountain" This years Western Regional of the NSS was being held in Great Basin National park. When I found out Ric couldn't make it I decided it was time to see how the bug fared on a longer journey. I got off to a poor start as I left Sacramento, despite leaving early traffic ground to a… -
Trip Report: White Rim Trail, Utah
For years on end, I've dreamt of tackling the White Rim Trail. I've read and re-read about it on various off-road sites and drooled over photos on this forum and tons of others of the narrow two track roads that cling to the sides of the towering cliffs it navigates you through. There is something about actually completing… -
