Re: Subjective WB Question
Here's some non-subjective input based on numbers. In image #1, I put sample points in four places to sample the color values, two on her face, one on the white lettering on the uniform and one on her dark shirt right above the red vneck. I then switched the color sampler for the two points on the face to show me CMYK… -
Re: help me spec out a new computer system
It's a tough call but I would first look at both a comparable PC and Mac then choose what features you want or need. By starting off with the dual proc G5 then comparing this to a Gateway $500 pc is a bit one sided. I would spec out a medium to high end pc, for example around the same price as the dual proc G5 THEN compare… -

Re: Theater lens recommendations?
WORLD. OF. DIFFERENCE. I used to rent the 70-200 regularly, and let me tell you, the 50-150 is just WORLDS better for the crop sensor. The focal range at 50mm instead of 70mm is just *perfect*, honestly I shoot almost EVERYTHING with this lens, I even shoot the theater cast photos (20-30 kids at once) just by simply… -
Re: LIGHT Discussion: HDR
I'll preface by saying this is just my opinion, to avoid sticking IMO all over the place, and this applies only to natural landscapes (not architecture interiors, or surrealistic landscapes). To summarize, in general: HDR is great, tone-mapping isn't. HDR encompasses a wide variety of techniques. They all have one thing in… -
Re: Grappler's Quest
OK, that's not too difficult ON THE MAT - frame TIGHT ALWAYS. Frame tight then crop tighter. Sports action photography isn't like landscape type work. you want the action to fill the frame. In 95% of the shots the background will add nothing to the shot. The other 5% you're intentionally including the background because… -
Re: Printing dark, new user
On my calibrated system I'm seeing exactly what you describe that you see with your prints. All monitors come from the factory with the brightness cranked up much too high for image editing, although it's great for using Office applications and watching video. I had a Dell eIPS monitor and had to reduce brightness to… -
Re: I don't understand it
Harry, that's so disappointing. This year I saw one father standing in front of a sign that said, "Do not feed the alligators," and he was leaning over the fence, holding his young child so that she could dangle a cheeto over the snout of an alligator. It was a really small alligator, but the child's hand wasn't too big… -
Re: PC Video Monitor - color adjustment
This is usually the result of editing images on a monitor that is too bright for the room you are editing in. Your best option may be to increase the lighting in the room while editing. I'll explain this later. It is a perceptual issue of the human eye/brain. You might be able to confirm this by selecting an original image… -
Canon Image Transfer (Looooong whine and short resolution)
Since I moved to the Dark Side and started enjoying viciously unforgiving world of dSLRs with my new Canon 20D, I realized that, apart from many other comfortable things, my 828 provided me with one convenient service - fast, native, easy-to-use USB file I/O interface. Plug the cable in, turn the camera on - and it simply…
