Re: Comments and likes from outside Smugmug, without the need to log in, please!
Ok, I'll add my request for this true guest comment feature, without a login. I was just on the phone with my dad (89) to have him add comments on historical picture (and he has a lot to say). But walking through the mac Keychain access to find his "google" account password is very painful. And it didn't work. As was… -
Re: Which Antelope Canyon (Slot Canyon) tour should I take?
I agree. Contact Overland Canyon Tours to see if you can get in on one of their tours to Upper Antelope or Canyon X. If not don't bother with Upper and just do Lower Antelope. It is easy to find- from Hwy 89 just head East on Hwy 98. When you get to the large power plant Upper Antelope is on the right and Lower Antelope is… -
Re: Ray flash ring anybody?
Nik, I am sure you've seen the cheap DIY ringflash setups on the Strobist, but some may not have. It does allow ETTL also.. Basically, take a white 14 or 18 inch bow, put a flash in through a window in the back, and add a reflector in the center of the diffusion screen wire tied to the front of the bowl. The reflector can… -
Re: Online music services
I have Itunes because I have an Ipod, but I've also used a service (fairly new I think) called ctraxmusic.com. I'm not sure about prices for a subscription (my university has a deal so all students get it for free). I know it's something like $0.89 if I want to "own" it, otherwise it comes with a "restricted" licence (not… -
Re: Which bag for air travel?
Around town I use one main backpack and then a large clear plastic storage bin to keep the rest of the stuff within close reach - usually in the car. I've got two airline trips coming up this year and will limit myself to just the backpack - a Tamrac 3380 backpack with laptop storage. Only thing I don't like about it is… -
Re: Route 66 in California 10/18/08 (Long Post)
After the Cajon Road, you have to get onto Highway 15 to Victorville. We exit the highway to get back to Route 66 in Victorville, this used to be a small desert town found around 1886, but with the recent real estate bubble, Victorville has grown to a city of over 99,000 residents. It’s here that we see some more quaint… -
Re: External hard drive connected to camera?
I would recommend at least a couple 4Gb cards so you can swap out during the day. I currently use a 4GB in my 30D and have a 2GB backup card. If I fill the 4GB, I switch to the 2GB and plug the 4GB into my Wolverine FlashPac 7000 (60GB version), put it in my bag and let in copy the images while I continue to shoot. It's… -
Re: Concert photographer looking for a new lens
Yeah well that's the problem, you never know how close to the stage you're going to be every time if you goto different venues and clubs. And some times you might want to shoot from the back of the house too. F1.8 or F2.8 thats like what 2/3 of a stop slower, so just wait for the spot lights to come on or the stage lights… -
Re: Which lens produced the better result?
Thanks for the input all - that's consistent with my observation. I think I have unreasonable expectations. I thought that, with the more expensive lens, viewing the image at 100% the words "Herald and Journal" on the green mailbox would be crisp, or at least clear. They're neither. I can hardly tell a difference between… -
Re: Location advice, Glacier, Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon
That is the campground. They do not provide a tent- just the site, but you could just park your car at the site and take advantage of all the other features. Hotels in the area will probably run you $89-189 a night depending on the accommodations. Those will be your rates throughout your trip in the Southwest. Given your…
