Re: 35mm Film - Where and what to buy?
For B&W, Tri-X was always my faviorite film, along with Plus-X for bright daylight. Nowdays, T-Max 400 is a finer grain version of a modern Tri-X. Be sure to try some Ilford XP-2 Super (ISO 400) which can be processed by any C-41 lab. (Chromogenic, C-41 process.) Not as sweet as the Kodak film, but it has the convenience… -
Re: memorial service (large post)
Thank you all so very much. I'm glad the story and emotion is there. Scott...#11 hit me hard as well. As I said, making them b&w really helped, I think. Otherwise, they appeared, at first glance, to be a jumble of snapshots. (Heather, thanks for the thumbs-up on the conversions! I don't often land on a conversion that I… -
Re: New Speedlight - Getting Started
Some comments: Scott, To fully appreciate how happy we were with these photos, I think that you need to understand the abundance of horrible indoor flash shots that we have taken year after year - the ones with the dark black background, super washed out subject, and demon red eyes. The basic fact that these ain't those is… -
Re: Color Run 5k
I'm so excited one of my posts is getting so much attention! All of the points brought up have validity, which is usually what causes defensive behavior in an opposing party. It's true...these dust particles are INCREDIBLY finite. I used to work dusty horse stables / arenas as a youngster, and the corn starch IS a smaller… -
Re: To DSLR or not DSLR.
It looks like the Pentax 645 was introduced in 1984, and may have been the first to use that format? At that time I already had a Mamiya C330 and Hasselblad 500C, and I could use the 56mm square images either as square, or add cardboard cropping guides***** to allow lots of subordinate portrait and landscape crops,… -
Downeast solstice
I was feeling the need for an Acadia National Park "fix" by mid-December. I settled on a long weekend just before the winter solstice for a quick wander, starting my journey with a quick (overnight) visit with a friend in Yarmouth, ME. That gave me a jump up the coast, allowing me to spend the afternoon of my first… -

Re: What's your story?
Well, since I'm new here, I'll start with this (and then try to read some of the earlier responses when I have time). I'm 30 years old and live in rural southern NJ. The garden spot of the Garden State. Although, I do work in Delaware as an electrical engineer. I live with my lovely wife, 2 greyhounds Zephyr and Saturn,… -
Re: Ranting...
Well Jeremy ... at the risk of sounding like hate mail, but maybe the followoing will help you better understand what happened behind the scenes: * The XSi is not the most recent consumer camera to be released by Canon. Consumer level cameras tend to fall of in market value quite quickly. MSRP on this camera is $750. Since… -
Re: Most Bang For The Buck?
Seeing posts like this on multiple sites always yeilds the same results. Everyone has chapagne dreams on a beer budget. Firstly whether or not you do this full time, part time, hobbyist etc has no bearing on it. IQ that a body and lens produces does not care how ofen you do it. While this may be your justification for…
