Looks like I'm against the grain (or rather with it ) in preferring #2 over #1. Something about the B&W conversion just doesn't click with me on #1. It just seems like the stalks are too distracting... glowing almost. #2 is great in my opinion. The B&W really works quite well for the subject. Perhaps taking a levels layer… -

#1 for me in a "Sunflowers can be disturbing" sort of way. They just look at you as they will kill you if you look away. Probably too much "Day of the Triffids" in my youth. Nice work. #2 needs a different crop. Gut feel is the lower part, trending on the right is wasted. I don't get anything from the sailboats. -

I gotta vote for #1! I really like the processing on that one, hopefully once the contest ends, you'll share your methods! I like #2, but a lot of the individual parts are sort of getting jumbled together... does the color version have more definition between the parts? #1 for me too. I agree with Alan that additional contrast might give the photo more ummph (note the sophisticated terminology - just my I'm-not-awake-yet word for "wow" factor) . Reworked The Murderous Sunflowers. You really got to keep an eye on the the ones that have not fully opened, they look like they could take a bite out of you. Added a few more to the confusion. I am going to wear out my shutter or at least see if it will go the 150000 actuation like Nikon said if we keep up with these DSS…
