The 70-200 is considered by many to be one of the best lenses ever made by Nikon. It's easily mine and many other's favorite lens. It's much more popular than the 24-70 but it just depends what focal length you need. You'll get "better" images with the 70-200 due to compression and the ability to blur the background. -

Have you looked into third party lenses. There are some very nice lenses in the 24-70 range which would probably fit your needs for a fraction of the cost of the Nikon. Look at the Tamron 28-75....if you don't need tack sharp at 2.8...you will love the Tamron, plus it has Macro ability which comes in handy sometimes. -

I have both of the lenses mentioned. The 70-200 VR ll is much larger and heavier than the 24-70. It would depend on what you are planning on using the lens for. They both are sharp and hold the 2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range. The 24-70 is a great all around lens but for shooting something that requires a longer… -

Killer Lens. I love it on both my 300s and D3s. But I would not sell your 18-200 to get one. Both serve a purpose. I regret selling my 18-105. There are many times I wish I had that range in that small package. The Nikon 24-70 is wicked sharp, fast focus, and really big and heavy. You could always use it as a club if you… -
